Hi guys,

so I had a scope done a few weeks ago and the results were pretty good, fastforward to now and I am feeling terrible, though symptoms have been weird, I've been more constipated rather than needing to go, but the times I have been there has been a little bit of blood, I just hate this bloated, gassy feeling ontop of feeling constipated... Maybe its time to up the meds. :( wondering if anyone else has noticed they flare up after scopes?

Can't say I did, I wouldn't know why the scope would make you flare either, they're usually extremely gentle with these things.

The thing that did make me flare were the preps before the procedure, some are very acidic, they should remove some off the market, they are terrible. Or at the very least they should not be used for people with Crohn's disease or UC who have ulcers, it's like throwing oil on a fire.

I would tell your doc there's blood though.

yeah, the prep is brutal, I had diacol pills this time, but the reason I posted this is because I remember things sort of getting worse after my initial colonoscopy. I see my GI on Aug 7 but want to get in sooner. Just weird because the scope results were pretty good. :(

I had a lot of blood and pain after my last colonoscopy but it only lasted about a week. The blood was from the removal of polyps and the pain due to the scope going through inflamed and narrowed parts. I wouldn't call it a flare but rather a side effect of the procedure in my case.

My daughter started flaring very bad after her colonoscopy. The DR wasn't surprised when l told him a week later. He put her on steroids which settled things pretty quick.

I've had problems after a scope but for me I know it was the prep that caused the problems because I had to drink the same prep mixture (KleanPrep) for an MRI, and I ended up flaring after that too. My doctor didn't believe me when I told her that the prep had caused me to flare badly.

same with my daughter. All was good along enteral nutrition diet and even afterwards, till she had a bowel MRI and symptoms came back. Then she went back to enteral nutrition for short period and all settled again. GI couldn't explain it - but as can be seen in the forum - this is not uncommon

colonoscopies are very invasive and can cause GI distress even in the healthiest person. Not the colonoscopy itself, but rather the whole cleanout process. When you drink that stuff that clears you out, it is ridding you of a lot of your beneficial gut flora. This kind of leaves one vunerable to a host fo stuff. It is very important to take Lots of probiotics before and for a good while after you have a colonoscopy to help re-establish your gut flora. They really need to find a better way to view the colon without having people drink that toxic stuff, I mean it is so vey bad for your gut....

I don't have Crohn's, but before a colonoscopy, I give myself a thorough enema and they always tell me I was well cleaned out. The prep drinks make me sick.

I don't think the prep is directly responsible. Remember that it cleans out your bowels, and you need to re-establish the flora. I had a scope on Tuesday of the past week, and yesterday had the worst bloating and gas of the last several months. I attribute that to the re-colonization process. So, indirectly the prep does it I guess. That's my two cents worth - I think the symptoms should subside quickly.
