Hi All

So i had my follow up appointment with my G.I. today after being diagnosed with mild Crohns in July.

At the initial appointment after my colonscopy we decided to manage my crohns with diet as i suffered no symptoms and blood work was pretty good.
I went to a dietician who gave me some pointers on what foods to stay away from but really was not much help as again sufferring no symptoms.

My blood work has come in spot on again and then he says there is a fine balance sometimes between and IBD and IBS????? Is there? Doesn't Ulcers in the Ileum = Crohns and not an IBS?

Do i or don't i have crohns????

He doesn't need to see me again unless something changes and is sending a letter to my GP to have my blood work checked every 3 months.

Doctors have no clue about this disease!!!!

Cheers
Lola

I'm no expert as I was diagnosed the same time as you were so I'm still learning about the disease too, but to me it sounds like you aren't flaring at the moment, which would be why you blood work is coming back as OK.

I must sound like a broken record on here, but really you can only go by bloods if they show a problem, blood which is clear for any markers is wholly unreliable and cannot on its own determine that you don't have IBD.

My bloods were fine but my whole colon was inflammed/ulcered, but i am not one in a million as its really not unusual for that to be the case,

I really don't think they can go from a diagnosis of mild crohns to IBS based on bloods alone, keep pressing for some answers,

take care

I completely agree with Rossy, got bloodwork done a few weeks ago that came back normal and i'm so sick at the moment. Ya so just keep pressing for answers, like Rossy said.

Best of luck!

Thanks everyone, i think it's time for me to go and get a second opinion.

The difficult part for me is that i have never had a flare but i am not discounting that that day will not come for me and when it does i will know what one is adn feels like.

My current GI said he doesnt need to see me until or if something changes, for me, thats too late. I want to be monitored every 3 months regardless of whether i feel well or not.

It's at my own cost so he cant refuse right? He is great but just a little too blase' for my liking.

thanks for listening

Hiya Lola

Yeah, dead right! Blase and flippant!
How can he say Crohns, then IBS? Not good enough that!
I would keep insisting and persisting, I didn't get where I am today without screaming in his face! I also asked to be monitored every 3 months too.
Failing that, how about a second opinion?
Good Luck
