food allergy testing

My mom is pushing me to get this done. She feels that food allergies are exacerbating my immune response. She says she had me on elimination diets when I was a little gaffer and thinks that I can bring things back under control by limiting any allergens I may be eating. Any experience or opinions on that?

btw i really doubt I would do something like the SCD. Way too much for me as I  FOOD

Had it done - showed no allergies to the most common allergies. That being said - I almost feel like they either messed my test up or swapped it with someone else's (yes, I have paranoid tendencies) because I just *know* I have nasal allergies and it came back negative there as well.

I would get it done Kenny - it can't hurt - and it most certainly could help! Let us know how it turns out!

I think the RAST thing might be unnecessary for me due to cost. I'm ok with the prick testing method. I can remember having it done almost 40 years ago and I think I cried like a baby. But I'm a big boy now and will bite my lip and try not to cry

I don't know about a home kit Silver, but I am seeing my gp next week for chat so I will request a referral and see what that gets me.

LOL.
I had this done and it showed I was allergic to food in
EVERY FOOD GROUP.

I think I mentioned this in some other posts but the catergories on
the screen light up if you have an allergy and my whole screen lit up like
a bloody Christmas tree!

So it appears I should either eat and be in pain, or starve myself and die.
Choices, choices...

food test

yes you should have this done. Ask for an Igg food panel test. My son (12) was diagnosed last year and I had this done for him right away. He showed "sensitivities" to many foods. so we took him off Wheat, dairy, beef, corn, bananas and pork for about 5 - 6 months. Then we introduced things back one at a time. Now, he is only off bananas, corn, has grass fed beef only, and wheat. He is doing great. Wheat gluten is huge cuplrit for Crohn's sufferers and there are great gluten free breads and foods available.
It is well worth it to have this done. he does take Imuran but is on a low dose and his ced rate and C-reactive protein are back to normal.
Good luck.

keep a food log

As I explained to someone earlier in the week

Food may not fully control this condition but I know it does make it worse if I eat the wrong things

I love food too I just find different foods to eat. If you look hard enough there are alternatives that don't taste too bad

I still miss beer even though Red-bridge is a close substitute

Good luck

Cog's idea is a good one. I kept a food diary when I was initially diagnosed and have kept a mental note of what I eat and related crohn's symptoms. For me, I was able to isolate that anything corn related (even corn syrup in sodas, etc.) is really bad for me. That and bread.

But, an allergy test is not a bad idea.

I did the food log thing for the first couple of months. What got me thinking more about the allergy test is that now I am getting so much better I might be eating foods that contribute to my allergy load but do not cause enough acute symptoms to be noticed outright.

Trying to prevent exposing myself to allergens in the form of food at a low chronic level vs the more obvious and immediate acute reaction.
