Food and inflammation?

Hi, so I know food is a massive trigger for my crohns but I have a question does trigger food actually make the inflammation worse or does it just give you pain because it's sore and swollen?

I would lean towards saying that the trigger food makes the inflammation worse. Have you tried keeping a food diary to see which foods upset your system?

Good question, something I've wondered about also. I know pumpkin seeds are a trigger food for me. If I eat pumpkin seeds I'll quickly develop a great amount of stomach pain and spend time in the bathroom.

Pork is a trigger food but for causing inflammation in my gums. It takes a week of eating pork for my gums to swell up though. It's odd, but a consistent result I've tested a number of times.

Beef I'm less sure about, but I suspect it causes mild upset stomachs and poor energy levels. The loss of energy takes a few days to occur though. Why that is I don't know. Possibly intestinal inflammation slowly builds up, but that is just a guess.

Of late I've been following a wild caught fish and sea food diet. Fish is often mentioned as being anti inflammatory. I was reading that again today in an article, which can be seen here:

Tired? Eat mussels. High blood pressure? Munch on mackerel: Expert reveals why seafood really is a superfood

On the fish diet I've been well to my stomach. My energy levels are going up, returning to healthier levels too.

I'm wondering if in the future if I'll be able to eat pork or potentially other trigger foods. The idea being I'm thinking is if the inflammation is gone, due to the fish diet, I might be able to. I'm not sure, but fingers crossed that I will be able to, at least a little.

I am also trying to get a handle on what is bothering me. Newly diagnosed less than a year ago, I do not have the control over this that I decided I need to have. While I wait for a consult with a dietitian, I know I need to get some nutrients into me. Bad food includes- red meat- beef & pork. Veggies except corn which does not bother me- imagine that! My diet is eggs, toast, fish- and I have lost 40 lbs. Not a fan of hanging, baggy skin, but it is what it is.

My specialists office tells me diet has little to do with it- but did encourage me to stick to soft foods while in a flare as to not irritate the inflammation. Anything with a seed is a definite no no. But fish & chips don't bother me. Potatos other than french fries bother me. It's a learning curve and outside of the pain connected with Crohns, the inability to eat good tasty food is the 2nd worse aspect of this.

You said that toast was part of your diet. When you see the dietitian, you might ask about being tested, ask about being tested to see if you are intolerant to gluten.
