Crohns Food delivery option

I have a question for you guys, Since i am single and live alone and with a dog I was looking for at food delivery options. I found it very frustrating none the less, that there really isn't any for IBD/Crohns.

My question is in 2 or 3 parts.

1. Am I missing a option here since I just suck at cooking, trust me I am a miserable failure in the kitchen, which is why I admire those that cook and experiment with SCD or other dietary experiments. I know that Crohns and diet can be unique to the individual. But I was just looking to make life easy for me in the kitchen.

2. I noticed that some delivery like Schwans or others have diabetes options, just not a IBD solution. Is there a open spot in the market for this? Meaning since I am unable to find one that can handle Crohns or other IBD problems is this a vacancy in the market place that needs filling?

3. What other options do you guys have or suggestions since uhm, yeah I can screw up a recipe step by step. I have no idea why I am such a screw-up in the kitchen. I guess some people have it and some don't. I obviously have proven I don't have it when it comes to cooking at all.

Thanks in advance for your help.
Cary

I think the reason an IBD option doesn't exist is because it's so individual. It's not like celiac where you have to cut out gluten, or diabetes where carbs have to be managed.

Some people find success with SCD, others with Paleo, others need low residue, others just have a few specific triggers, some lucky beggars don't need to modify their diet.

As for you, maybe you need to teach yourself how to follow a recipe? Start with a kids recipe book and practice doing exactly as it says, weigh everything, time everything. Or even better, if you have a friend or family member who can cook, ask them to help and watch you to make sure you are doing what the recipe says!

Oh, and when you do find either a ready meal that is compatible with your diet or a recipe you can actually make, stock up in bulk and freeze portions.

Hate to cook? Get yourself a Crockpot [also called a "slow cooker"], also a very easy, few ingredients cookbook for the crockpot; then add a rice cooker and you've got it made! [rice + water and plug it in!]

Here's an easy beginners Crockpot recipe:
Chicken breasts + can of cream of "whatever" soup. You can even toss in a few cut of veggies to get fancy. [Plug it in and dinner is ready in 3-4 hrs on high, or 6-8 hours on low]. Serve along with the rice.

I get take-out food or go somewhere to eat, I hate to cook. I can cook an egg and it ends there. I have no desire to learn how to cook as professional cooks are way better at it. It costs a bit more than cooking myself but at least it's always cooked right at the right temperature and it tastes way better than the burnt stuff I make.

Kiny, thats my point, I remember years ago I was trying out this marinade for chicken, I baked it at 350 for 45 mins after it festered in the fridge overnite per the instructions, and it didnt taste good at all, I cut it up and gave some to my dog who smelled it and turned tail,:eek:utahere: and gave me a look that said, " dude what the hell is that?":stinks:

I cannot afford to eat out as I am unemployed like many of others, add the fact I am a uninsured Crohnie = recipe for disaster in its own way;)....outside of the kitchen-lol.

Yes, I destroy the pans when I cook. I can't stand just waiting there for something to boil so I leave and forget about it, until it's starting smelling of burnt, then I run back and I destroyed another pan.(well they're not pans, they're the bigger things you put water in, don't know the English name)

You have no cheap decent take out foods short to you to buy from?

I tend to stay away from take out as its not economical for me, and usually its crap. I do have higher standards since my mcd's days pre Crohns. But now with the huge hospital bills I just dont think its worth it any more, I mean I wont even by boneless skinless chicken breasts in the grocery store since a butcher near me spoiled me on 2 day old FRESH chicken, again high standards that just cant cook worth a crap. I told my siblings how I failed at meat loaf once, and my sister responded, " seriously how can you grow up in this family and be so fail in the kitchen?" :ywow::lol:

yah, I think it's different in the US, here take-out is made in the same place where they serve people in a restaurant, it's from the same cooks and you drive it home, it's not some silly box premaid icky stuff with preservatives from 2 week old dead chicken. We have bad take-out too, but most restaurant offer good take-out straight out of the restaurant (and if they don't, a few bucks convinces them to do it anyway)

I think people who "fail" at the kitchen just fail because they don't care. I'm smart enough to operate a stupid stove, I'm not a complete idiot, it's 2 directions, heat up and heat down, but I don't care, I don't want to stand there and actually make it, no way.

Yeah I know how you feel. I am not a complete idiot either but admit when it comes to cooking I am not the brightest bulb in the lamp either. But i can read, and when I follow a recipe to the letter, why is it so incredibly a failure? Patience could be one thing, thinking things through to much may be another, but one thing I'm slowly sinking into my brain is Crohns is a disease that is more individual based. Meaning I dont have a dairy issue, I do not have issues with coffee like some do. But I do have issues with residue and Asian food. Thats an example of what I mean. then we all have our unique areas of inflammation in out GI tracts and how it effects us.

Sucks that you have an issue with Asian food, I would have to move countries if I had issues with that since all the good take-out here is asian food. The rest is Quick (it's like mcdonalds, i.e. suicide) and italian (i.e. free food poisoning).

You could always keep that in mind if you ever move, moving to a place where they have 2 or 3 good take-outs in the neighbourhood. I'm pretty lucky living somewhere where I can pick and choose.

I have a friend who was a 5 star chef for a resort. He owns a very good Italian resturaunt near me and he makes me this Salmon dish that isnt even on his menu. He just tells me what to order and tell his staff what it is, thus I am 1 of 3 people out of thousands who get that dish since he put it together to be Crohns IBD safe.

Thats how I usually treat myself. Making turket sandwiches, peanut butter and jelly, shakes gets old quick.
