Food sensitivities during a flare

Hello.

I might have asked this before, however I am at my wits end!

End of May, my sinuses were inflamed and was documented by the Allergist. The million dollar question was, Is it allergies, migraines, or a sinus infection? The answer was yes to all three.

So in order we tried treating the inflamed sinuses as allergies (kinda worked), tried new migraine meds(kinda worked), and now that I feel even more sick we are working on treating the sinus as an infection (verdict out if that works).

I am now on antibiotics. The problem is, I feel like I am reacting to food. It feels like every time I eat, I get sick. Dizzy, increase in facial pain, stomach pain, dry heaving, diarrhea (really depends on what I eat) etc.

So I am slightly worried that maybe in the background that the Crohn's is acting up. I barley am holding onto 10 foods and those foods are now starting to give me a problem.

I guess the question would be, During a flare do your food sensitivity get worse?

Has anyone had noritriptyline aggravate their food sensitivites?

Any link between ongoing sinus problems and Crohn's?

More then anything, I just want to be able to get off of the couch and be somewhat functional.

I don't know about a connection between Crohn's and sinus problems, but you would definitely experience an increase in Crohn's symptoms from antibiotics since they are killing off all of your gut flora. If you can tolerate anything that has probiotics or prebiotics in it, that would be good to pair with the antibiotics.

The stomach problems and diarrhea is a common side effect of antibiotics. When I'm flaring, I start having problems with food. When I'm in remission, I can eat a lot more things. Have you tried the BRAT diet, bananas, rice, applesauce, toast. Just until you start to feel a bit better. Hang in there. :ghug:

It's not unlikely that your sinus issues are actually related to crohn's, in that some bacteria in the nasal passage are in the gut as well(like staph aureus), and there is a pretty tremendous amount of research on an altered response to the microbiome being an effect of Crohn's Disease genotypes.

You may want to cut carbs out of your diet and see if that helps. It's been demonstrated to help congestion in the general population, and it is unlikely that it would help less for people with Crohn's - it's actually likely that it would help more.
