Does anybody else's period seem to get worse with crohns?
What do you do to help

hey, yes, during my last one i had extremely bad back pain because i am currently having a flare up. the only thing that I find good for the pain is heat so i usually wrap myself up and take 2 panadol cos it is easiest on my stomach so ill be interested to see what other people think about this too!.:ysmile:

Me too! My two days are the worst, i usually can't even get out of bed, but i found hot baths and a heating pad helps some

Oh my gosh yes. Not only that, but my Crohn's seems to get worse around my period too. Some days it's just "TOO MUCH GOING ON DOWN THERE!" This is a new development for me. I'm on birth control so I haven't had problems for quite awhile and now I'm getting cramps again. I am using a hot pad. Because we aren't supposed to use advil right?

As far as i know the only thing we can use is tylenol, which sucks cause alieve used to be my miracle headache pill

I have had painful very heavy irregular periods my whole live. I'm in a flare right now and they said I have a thick uterus (lining not shedding) and fibroids. Might have to have a hysterectomy. During my cycle I get the D's something horrible. I also have a uti that won't go away. So everything south of my belly button is out of control right now.

ugh i just finished my period last week and complained to my husband that i want all my insides ripped out. Between cramps, heavy bleeding, hot flashes, constant D, bloating , joint pain, and feeling cranky its a wonder i dont kill someone!

The fact that i cant eat chocolate or any real sweet stuff doesnt help. Thank GOD i can drink.......its my only saving grace some days!

@ ontariomom, you sound like me. Lol I ask my dh to kill me each month, or atleast cut out my insides. I think even with a dull rusty knife it would less pain then what I'm in!

Same here. :( Every month I wonder how I can lose so much blood. My periods are very heavy and last 7/8 days.It sucks.

Now that I think about it, I do have more frequent stools when I'm on.

I went and saw my NP today and we decided to try Birth control again. I havent been on it since i was a teen. She is hoping that might lighten my periods up and the symptoms during them. if this helps i will be so happy. If not we can try a stronger one, she has me on a really light one to start.

So in about 3 weeks i will have my period and start the pills. So see what happens
.Cause the whole heavy bleeding, cramping, diahreea, sore A$$, cranky, joint pain

is really wearing me out.

I have always had light periods with no cramps. Since flaring i've only had one heavy period which still is out of the norm (it was at the beginning of my flare and since has not happened). The steroids make me have a couple day of bleeding mid month.

My periods DEFINITELY made my symptoms worse. The only time I've achieved remission in 10 years was during my pregnancy, so afterwards I set out to find a birth control that mimicked the pregnancy hormone. I did find one that helped some, but it was very expensive. It was seasonique... which only gives you four periods a year. Never felt better! It may not have even been that particular BC that was so successful, maybe just not having such frequent cycles is what helped. Who knows... but my personal opinion is that hormones and stress have EVERYTHING to do with symptom flares!

when first dx with uc my periods didn't really bother my uc. Now the last year its been awful, not with losing alot of blood but it flares my stomach and i get d. What makes it worse is that i've been getting my p's every 21 days or sooner. Its been like that for about 7 years. I am seeing a gastro dr. first time on mon, sept 10. its driving me nuts. About the birth control pills can you take that at any age and is it only for heavy periods. I would consider trying it. I just hope i can make the trip on monday, its a 3 hr. drive. Doesn't it seem when you have to go somewhere the p strikes. For me it does.

I read a lot about this after I was diagnosed. I was diagnosed with Crohn's when I was pregnant, though. After a lot of reading and hearing women's experiences of flaring EVERY month, I decided to go with the Mirena IUD. My son is almost 1 and I still haven't gotten my period back-so that's definitely a plus!

HOWEVER-I just started Imuran this week and while reading through the paperwork it says that the med may interfere with the effectiveness of an IUD. BOO!! It says to use a backup birth control method. So that's frustrating for sure!

Even though I hate being pregnant (I have 5 boys), sometimes I wish I were, because like you, I seem to go into remission as well. This has to have something to do with hormones?Or pregnancy just slowing everything down?Or a combination of both maybe?I wish there was a magic pill that would make our bodies think we are pregnant, of course without all the morning sickness though. :p
