hi peeps i dont know yet if i have ibd,i am waiting on a couple of biopsy results.i was diagnosed yesterday with gastritis and duodenitis.i have been suffering from fatigue for the last 7 months and can sleep upto 18 hours a day which my gp said is not consistant with my diagnosis.i was wondering if any members have had the same problem?i have been getting pains only the last few days probably caused by a very stressfull period though my appetite has been poor for the last 9 months(lost 3 stone).do all crohns patients have diarrhea?as i usualy dont but have been crapping pencils on/off for a while now:blush:.is this consistant with crohns/ulcerative ibd?any info would be greatly appreciated.thanks for taking the time to read this. P.S. I have just recently seen a very interesting documentary on people being cured of ulcers and cancer using canabis oil it is called RUN FROM THE CURE which can be seen on utube or downloaded from torrent sites.goodnight and sleep tight all.jason.:goodluck:

Hi Jason, sorry to hear you're having a "crap" time of it, so to speak!:)

Having a "bad tum" goes hand in hand with Crohn's and UC...you just get accustomed to it eventually, and find a way to live your life around it.

There is life (a very good one!) after being diagnosed with Crohn's or UC, and there is a lot of help/advice available on this forum from members worldwide.

Best wishes,
Mark.

Hey there welcome to the forums. I'm always leery of those 'cures'. Less than 10 years ago there was people saying swallowing a certain worm (possibly roundworm?) could cure IBD....

Diarrhea isn't always constant across all people with Crohn's. There are some with extreme constipation here which is usually due to narrowing of the intestines due to the inflammation.

The weight loss is quite common across most people with an IBD. Basically with an IBD you have areas of your intestines taken over by inflammation or ulcers which are therefore ineffective at nutrient or water intake. Because of the added water to the stool a lot of people with an IBD get diarrhea, and due to the food not being taken up properly you won't absorb the calories and nutrients and your weight may start to drop.

Anyway best of luck with it and again, welcome.

Hiya Jason
and welcome fellow Brit
not so far from me!

Fatigue is common with an IBD, Crohn's or Ulcerative Colitis. So it IS consistent with this.
GPs with the best will in the world are NOT IBD specialists, so have you been referred to see a gastro? What biopsies have you had? A colonoscopy would determine whether there's any inflammation, and if there is, this inflammation causes strictures over time in the bowel. These strictures can cause narrowing, hence the pencil stools you're experiencing. Not all Crohnies have diarrhea. Everyone is different, everyone is unique with their symptoms. But fatigue is a killer alright.
Your blood work would also see if there's any deficiencies, such as vitamin B12, iron and vitamin D. Anaemia is common with IBD.
Hope you get something sorted soon and appropriate meds.
lotsa luv

hello and thank you so much for taking the time to answer my questions, you dont know how much it means to me that there are people out there who actually care about fellow human beings(then again you must do).i have not been referred to a specialist yet and only had the biopsy(endoscopy is it)a couple of weeks ago so i have not been given any information at all but have just been given lansoprazole.i have some b12 at the back of the cupboard somewhere i will give it a try.i had several beers last weekend and i think it was this and stress that has caused my flare up and wind problems.i think the worm crazyleafs is talking about is called a whipworm(pigworm),though i suppose symbiosis is not everybodys cup of tea.i had a dream once i played for the maple leafs once even though i skate like a camel lo,it must have been a leftover from the playstation game.again i thank you so much for your TIME and humanity.jason:kiss: p.s. astra keep smiling ya friggin gorgeous:Flower: l

HI Jason and welcome!

I concur with Joan - a GP is not a specialist and you really should consult with a GI doctor! Like she said, fatigue IS consistent with IBD - it's actually one of the most common symptoms and the one that most of us complain about the most!!

Hope you can get a dx soon - be patient, sometimes it takes a while- but once you know what you're dealing with, you can get a treatment plan together with your doc.

Good luck - Amy

:rof: Thanks Jason!

Hi Jason!

I get pencils too... but usually just prior to the eruption of diarrhoea and blood etc etc. But yeah there are a few of us here with similar symptoms to yourself. I personally don't get fatigued... well that's a lie, I do, but I'm very good and used to pushing on regardless cos I've had heart issues all my life and they really tire me out so I've become used to the fact that if I want any sort of life I just have to push myself and get on with it.

I do get a poor appetite/ inability to eat during a flare though and lose weight (dropped a dress size in 2-3 weeks!!). You're certainly NOT alone with this and I've found this forum is amazing. The people on here really understand and care.

I think though, despite similarities in your symptoms with lots of us here, it would be silly to just assume this is IBD, as the others have said you really need to see a gastro doc to have the relevant tests. Esp if you've been losing weight.

Hope you get some answers soon and hope you're feeling well today!
