Hi, i have been put on a course of Fragyl, which i need to take for appr 3 weeks for my crohns.. My body is aching , could this be a side effect. and i have had a shockingheadache, i am on day 5. Anyone else take this drug? maybe i am just getting the flu (kids have had it ) Also after much googling, just wonder what this drug actually does. I have just finished 6weeks on predisilone. thanks

Do you mean Flagyl? Headache is a fairly common side effect, though I did not have this when I took the drug. You are also supposed to strictly avoid alcohol while taking Flagyl, even small quantities as found in things like mouth wash, since it is said to interact with the drug causing rapid heart rate, nausea, flushing of the skin, and shortness of breath. Whether this interaction actually exists is in some doubt, but it's probably best to avoid drinking while on the antibiotic.

Flagyl just makes me SICK.....feel awful like I have the flu....so it is marked on my chart that I don't tolerate it......

Hi Seb,

Along with Pen, I feel like the Queen of Flagyl! Over the past few years, I have probably been on it more often the not on it. I have an absolute love/hate relationship with this drug. Yes it makes me feel like crap. Headaches, nausea, fatigue, general flu-like symptoms...BUT, it is the only thing that ever gave me any relief when me abscess was at its worst. I know it's tough, but hang in there if you can. For me, I found that after a week or two on a course, the side effects seem to lessen. After reading up on it, I concluded that some of the side effects may have just been from infection working its way out of my body. In the end, the benefits of the flagyl far outweighed the cons. It is a very strong drug...but it works!

ive been on it for over 2 months now. After my pleading my doc lowered my dosage and that helped immensly with the side effects. Perhaps that could work with you too? I didn't have the headaches but the nausea was horrid!

I've been on it for 2 episodes of c-diff. I could not tolerate the pill, nausea and throwing up. I have to get it intravenous, but stil a bit nausea, but better. The only thing is that i have to stay in hopital for the treatment. It also made taste of food a bit off.

Extremely good point, David!!

I remember being on it one time, and forgetting about the alcohol warning, I had a glass of wine with some friends one evening and OMG I was sick!! And I had actually not had many of the side effects before that, maybe a bit of a headache (but I almost always have a headache from one drug or another...lol). I don't remember if I had any effects from mouthwash, but I would avoid cough syrup for sure! lol! :) :)

I was wondering about the alcohol, and how sick you get. i was tempted to have a glass of wine out last night with friends, but opted not to, just in case.. i heard u can get very very sick when mising alcohol and flagyl..(luckily i stayed clear of the wine)
