If you know of a child ostomate anywhere in the world, we are happy to send a free ostomy puppet - they come in different ethnicities, sex and interest (for older kids). We can customise them on request although it takes a little longer.
Again, no charge, no shipping charge, no costs. The only thing we ask in return is a picture of the child with the gastronaut (our collective noun for the puppets) this is not however obligatory as we understand that some parents prefer to keep their children anonymous. We can also put you in touch with other parents near you as we work with the IOA, UOAA, OA, UOAC, Stommatje.nl, stomadata.fr and a lot more. All puppets are fitted with a lookalike permanent stoma (on top of puppet clothing as we cannot risk little hand getting to the stuffing), this is surrounded by an Eakin Seal (donated) on top of which is a neonatal sized bag for whatever discipline of ostomy (donated by Hollister) or a catheter for mit. procedures and irrigation - which can again be removed for simulation. We put the stoma on L or R side on request. In one year we have supplied over 2.800 puppets to 29 countries and we are currently registering as a formal charity with the Charities Commisson supported by some great patrons from around the world. For more information, please contact us via our website www.thebowelmovement.co.uk or email us on [email protected] Again no costs to the parent at any time. It is regrettable that we learned some parents in the UK had paid for some of our puppets through a third party, we have refunded those we have found as this is contrary to our ethics and policies. If we missed you, please let us know. We fund the puppets from our royalties from our resource book for ostomates "Unwanted Baggage", fees we receive for medical articles and donations from individuals and companies. Once our charity reg. comes through, we will then be able to solicit more donations publicly but we will never turn a child down. Orders take 7-10 days as they are custom made to order. Pre-op cases can be turned around to reach the child in the shortest possible time to allow them to adapt before the operation. :ywow:
