Hi Rebecca,
My daughter suffered with the same issues following a somewhat extensive ileocolic resection in 2006.
From the outset she was going 5-7 times a day. She would plan her eating around her day which wasn't particularly successful when she was at school all day and then working in the afternoons. If she then ate too late in the day she was up throughout the night.
Her problem is the inability to absorb bile salts due to the removal of her terminal ileum. She was initially prescribed a medication called Questran, it is a powder. It did work for her but she found the texture too unpalatable. Metamucil, Lomotil and Imodium all caused pain, bloating and cramping. She eventually came upon natural psyllium husks and they have worked wonderfully well, if she uses the husks she only goes once a day. About the same time as commencing the husks she moved to a vegan diet so I don't know if that is a playing a role as well but I can't imagine it wouldn't have some effect on it.
