Hi, I was wondering if anyone has the same problem as me, Everyday i go to toilet about 5-6 times and this has been happening since my op. Any advice? :/

How long ago was your surgery Rebecca? If your feeling well & no signs of Crohns could be that you need to introduce some fiber into your diet. I'd speak to your specialist 1st though before doing anything. After my 1st surgery I was getting terrible diarrhea for about 6 weeks, my specialist recommended some fruit & gentle fiber cereals(cornflakes)-problem solved.

I had my op in 2002 and had it ever since, im on a diet which consists of fiber. im alright and got no other symptoms and my doc says theres nothing to worry about. It just gets me down sometimes :/

If it was a laperotomy then its not surprising. They make it as wide as possible so that any scarring will take ages before it comes a problem. Have you tried immodium, the syrup I found was very good, even controlling a Laperotomy "flow".

Hi Rebecca,

My daughter suffered with the same issues following a somewhat extensive ileocolic resection in 2006.

From the outset she was going 5-7 times a day. She would plan her eating around her day which wasn't particularly successful when she was at school all day and then working in the afternoons. If she then ate too late in the day she was up throughout the night.

Her problem is the inability to absorb bile salts due to the removal of her terminal ileum. She was initially prescribed a medication called Questran, it is a powder. It did work for her but she found the texture too unpalatable. Metamucil, Lomotil and Imodium all caused pain, bloating and cramping. She eventually came upon natural psyllium husks and they have worked wonderfully well, if she uses the husks she only goes once a day. About the same time as commencing the husks she moved to a vegan diet so I don't know if that is a playing a role as well but I can't imagine it wouldn't have some effect on it.

Hey Rebecca do you still have your gallbladder? I had the same problem after surgery and like dusty kat my doc said it was from too much bile. He gave the the choice of questran (powder) or cholestid (pill) . I only take a cholestid pill twice a day and maybe make 1 or 2 trips to the bathroom a day. Good luck!

I have had 2 surgeries and diahreah was very much in my life right after. My Gi recommened Questran (cholestyramine) works like a charm. You should avoid imodium..applesauce (unsweetened) bananas, all help. I havent been on Cholestyramine in years and only get D once in a while. Taking digestive enzymes before you eat helps break it down naturally...I dont have my gallbladder either so with all that, I am ok. Good luck. BTW Questran is script only.

I've had the same surgery as you and I only have D occasionally although I didn't suffer too badly with D before surgery. Did you have a lot of D before the surgery? I eat a normal diet now with very few restrictions but I eat loads of fibre. Unfortunately once the IC valve is removed D can be the consequence so you might need some of the meds mentioned above.

I had my mid and terminal ileum and a right hemicolectomy 5 weeks ago and have D 5-6 times a day and have been on solid foods for one week after being on liquid food for 3 weeks , living in hope of a solid poo !
