Not Crohns, not DVT, rather a badly ruptured appendix NOT diagnosed by my primary after two visits! On the 12th day of vomiting I went to the ER after a CT scan revealed a blockage, abdominal abcess, and a collapsed colon. With open surgery I had a small bowel resection - 20cm of the proximal ileum, lyses, appendectomy, and a deluxe interior wash:) of course.

It has been a long painful recovery. Eight weeks later I still have periodic pain in the small bowel and remain on a restricted diet. The incision is still sore, bloating is ridiculous and constant. The list of foods I won't/can't eat continues to grow. I miss broccolli and I still take colace depending upon what I eat each day.

How long before I feel normal again? Hm.

I do have a question...My stomach was flat and symetrical before the surgery and the omentum (i guess) is pushed up towards the belly button. So I have this pudge of fat I never had before. Did anyone have this? Does it work itself back into place? When?

I searched long and hard to find a blog like this...glad I found it.

Hi Lori and welcome! Oh boy, you've been through a lot! I don't have any answers to your questions, but I am sure you'll find the Surgery sub-forum helpful. I am sure you'll get a good response with your questions there.

Welcome! My goodness, you poor thing! I'm so sorry you've been through so much :(

What is "lyses"? That's a term I'm not familiar with.

I hope your recovery goes quickly and wish you all the best!

lyses

Thanks for the welcome.

Lyses..My small bowels were matted with adhesions and had to be cut/seperated ..."lysed." It's laproscopic procedure that was done before the doctor's decided to cut me open.

Hi welcome :)

I have had surgery. Not exactly like yours but it does need time to heal. See what happens over time and you will see a difference as time goes by. It takes time to heal, your body just went through a lot of trauma.

I had a different reaction around the tummy with too much scar tissue that actually hurt a bit. It was too tight and hard. I had to get cortizone injections till it became comfortable.
