I've been taking infliximab and mercaptopurine for 4 months now to heal fistulas. I'd been having a few symptoms in the last 2 weeks so my consultant put me on a week's course of cipro and metronidazole, followed by a month's course of cipro.

I'm on my first day of antibiotics and I think thrush has just appeared. Immunosuppressants and antibiotics seem like a terrible combination for fungal infections. Has anyone else dealt with this? Can you just treat the thrush normally or do you have to stop taking medication for crohn's?

You should contact your doctors office, I wouldn't think that thrush would appear so suddenly from the antibiotics. There may be something else going on.

Yes I'm sure it had been cropping up before I started the antibiotics. I'm just worried about how much worse they'll make it

Saw my GP today. Just gave me some regular anti fungal cream. Although this combination of drugs makes you very susceptible to candida infections, they're still not serious or complicated to treat. Obviously you should always get it seen to asap.
