Ahhh i'm completely having another gallbladder attack right now, its just started about 1/2 hour ago. I've really been trying to eliminate trigger foods, or reduce them, and it dont seem to help :(

First of all, do you guys have any suggestions?? and secondly, do you know if gallbladder problems are linked to an IBD?

crohn's apparently can impact gall bladder... I'm not sure of the connection, but it was theorized that my g/b issues MAY have been due to crohn's. My g/b was taken out laproscopically... in wee pieces, and no stones were ever found to prove they did or didn't play a role in my g/b woes. so, since my disease isn't definitively dx'ed as UC,CC or CD... and my g/b wasn't analyzed post op (it was piecemeal), it is now a moot point. If you think about it, the common bile duct connects the GI tract to the gall bladder, pancreas and liver.. so there is a path in the body for migration of the disease. and Habba Syndrome is connected to pancreas and/or ileum issues. Problem is, since the g/b is considered less than essential, g/b issues are typically addressed by surgery, and don't fall within the realm (typically) of internal medicine, or endrocrinologists. As for what to do re g/b, avoid fatty foods, avoid spicy foods, perhaps try just fluids or clear liquid diet for day or two. Whatever you do, don't ignore g/b issues. Mine got sooo bad, I developed multiple large pancreatic cysts... both deadly painful and a nitemare (not easily operable - really tricky dealing with these surgically, and if you NEED a g/b op, they normally won't do it WHILE you've got these cysts). I had to wait months in agony while they shrunk, getting CT scans to monitor them, and running the risk they'd rupture... and apparently they can do quite a bit of damage to surrounding tissue, organs, etc.., not to mention the "PAIN!".

What a nightmare.... I went back to the walk-in clinic today and without even testing for gallbladder he already ruled it out. Now I have to sit here suffering much longer while I wait to go see a specialist here in Regina, unfortunately the same guy who told me to "live with it" when I went to see him about my Crohn's problems. Soooo overwhelmed and frustrated right now!! :(

there is a great thread on here on Habba syndrome that Kev mentioned.
I started it and and am on the cholestyramine powder and it has helped so much. Do a search and tag search and you'll find it.

Oh hey Judy, didn't know you were on this forum too!. Yes, I am still definitely gf. I wouldnt dare even try to cut that out. I'm just having troubles trying to follow all 3 diets. I can manage either gf and Crohns, or gf and gallbladder. Can't seem to handle both :/

I had to beg and plead and finally found a wonderful surgeon who was willing to remove my gall bladder. He said we could claim (for insurance $ purposes) that it was to rule out gall bladder disease. My pain (when I have flare-ups) is directly beneath the sternum (bottom of center of rib cage). So for years, based on where my pain orginated, they checked my gall bladder functions. I've had many scans, ultrasounds, etc to check for gall bladder disease. They all came back normal. However, when the doc finally took it out, he found it to be full of plaque. It is apparently called "strawberry gall bladder" because the plaque (fibrous tissue) looks like the white substance in the center of a strawberry when you cut one open......

That said, I do still have the occasional flare-up, so unfortunately, it wasn't the cause of my pains.....I still wonder if more is going on in that area of my body though. What if there is more plaque built up on the common bile duct or pancreas, etc?.....

Anyway, I digress....Don't let your doc dismiss your concerns. You're paying him after all! He could at least order a test to rule it out....Most people DO have success with their tests...

Hope you're feeling better soon!

Yeah, that's a good point. I was WARNED, pre GB op, that in some patients, after surgery they encountered bile salts issues (Habba Syndrome) either temporarily (up to 2 - 3 years post op) OR permanently. Just reinforces the principle that one should never jump into any surgery without at least knowing potential risk factors.

tHANKS KEV

SINCE I've been on this powder, it's been 26 days of 'd' free:ylol2:
I just wish i understood why......with all the foods i've taken out of my diet.....that this powder is working..........thankful of course .............but wonder why?
I don't think i have a gallbladder issue...........no pain etc..........just he 'd' from the 'bile salt d'
I know we have discussed this on the forum before and if i remember correctly, you dr wouldn't put you on it......right.
