For the past couple of days I have had non-stop extreme gas pains. Does anyone else here ever have trouble with this? Could this be consistant with a flare up?

Hi Nathan, welcome to the forum. I ain't no dr., just a guy with IBD. It could be a flare, or it could be something minor.. a change in diet, meds, etc.. But since you describe it as non stop extreme gas pains, the one thing I know for sure it is.. is a good reason to see a doctor ASAP. Dramatic changes like that, esp when extreme is your body trying to tell you something. Thing is, you need a dr to tell you what.

I have a lot of gas personally. I just use simethicone which does wonders. It's over the counter (Gas-X) and has practically no side-effects because it doesn't absorb into your body. It's just an anti-foaming agent. It stops the bubbles from forming so that the gas just keeps moving and can't get stuck or exert pressure.

Colt, can this be taken pre-emptively/proactively with food that has a good chance at forming said gas? Will it work that way or does the gas actually have to already be affecting one? I have generic simethicone and have traditionally just taken it when I get the pain.

Are you passing gas? I would agree with Kev, if it's extreme go see your doctor.
I remember when I had extreme gas, you could actually watch the gas as it inflated my intestines. ..it was really weird and painful. My prob is I would have gas but not fart...of course the on going joke was that my farter was broken.

I'm pretty sure you can take it with the food. It works best while still in the stomach because it'll cause a quick burp and the gas will be out of your body ASAP. You won't have to worry about the gas needing to make it the rest of the way through the digestive tract or waiting for the simethicone to catch up with the gas bubbles way down there. I tend to take one with the first drink of a soda if I don't feel like shaking the carbonation out of it before drinking.
