Does anyone get trapped wind or gas? It's so painful. I was wondering if this could be crohns related?

I suffered a lot with this. Narrowings due to inflammation and scarring can aggravate this, and meds can certainly help create the problem. Keep a careful eye on what you eat and you may see some patterns. Some foods are naturally gassy, especially veggies. For me, poultry is also an issue. Beano and gas x can help somewhat. Keep a good eye out for it. Some of it can be managed.

That is one of the symptoms my daughter has when in a flare, it gets better when she goes to bathroom, but everybody is different.

Araceli, that is the same for me. As soon as I use the washroom I start to feel better.

Many medications have a side effect of killing off bowel bacteria - particularly antibiotics (it is what they are designed for). Look for ones that indicate "may cause diarrhea" and many of those kill off bacteria. When your bowel repopulates, it takes a while to rebalance. You can experience a lot of gas while that happens.

My GI actually told me about carbohydrates being the source of gas. He actually said it, I wish I had the forethought to have a videocamera pointed at him, because I don't think anyone will believe me. Back in 2008 he said it straight out.

The latest problem food for me now is green beans, even cooked, they give me a gassy pain. Safest foods are those with zero starch if this is a problem for you.

I do believe that easily accessible sugar can contribute to gas. Not so sure about generalizing to all starch. I eat a lot of potato, and it doesn't seem to contribute to gas for me. Sugars in fruit do seem to. Guaranteed that if I don't take gas x, an apple will give me a significant amount of gas.

Sometimes I take enzymes before I eat gassy foods and that helps. Other times I might take an OTC medication for gas/gas pains, but generally it doesn't really pass until I have a BM.
