Hi everyone

I've been having problems for as long as i can remember and am now at the point where i am at a complete loss for what to do.

I went to the doctors a few years ago complaining of stomach pain, persistent chronic diarrhea and bloating that NEVER goes away no matter what. I was immediately told it was IBS and was given mebeverine for a week (which did absolutely nothing). I then went back and was given low dose antidepressents that made me severely constipated which made me feel worse so i came off them amongst a few other typical IBS 'solutions'.

I then went to see a different doctor who tested me for things such as IBD, celiac, and even diabetes, which all came back negative.

I tried using natural supplements instead to promote healthy bowel movements such as green tea, garlic, and oregano, with no difference at all.

I was then diagnosed with Grave's disease and hyperthyroidism so i assumed that everything was related to that, but when that was under control, all my gastro symptoms persisted unaltered.

I then moved cities, and went to see a doctor that tested me for everything (again), this time with a stool sample as well. She found Giardia so I was really revlieved for once because she said that it was a simple infection tha goes away with antibiotics.

I went on Metronidazole (flagyl) 500mg for a week. The week after I was feeling fine, in fact i felt less lethargic, I was still going to the toilet quite often but my diarrhea was somewhat better, and my stomach pain was a little better too. the week after that i had severe diarrhea, severe abdominal pain (lower right hand side) and pellet like stool (sorry).

I went back to the doctors and this time she gave me tinidazole which i learnt was very strong. I went one 2mg for the first day then 1mg for seven days. After that i noticed that my stomach was no longer distended, but was severely bloated (still never goes away, I always fluctuate between looking 5 months and 9 months pregnant). I also kept having the weird pellet like stools.

I thought it was just the aftermath of the antibiotic so i took probiotic supplements and had yogurt maybe five times a day, still with no difference.

All of a sudden, I have severe constipation, as in i don't feel any urge to go to the toilet even after four days. At the same time i'm having severe pain in my abdomen, sharp stabbing pains bottom right hand side, as well as a burning cramp sensation in my abdomen below my belly button, and sharp spasm pains on my left hand side. I have the most severe lower back pain that wakes me up feeling horribly stiff and in pain. I feel extremely lethargic and after eating a quarter of what i can usually eat i get full, then feel nauseous (also a weird lump in my throat sensation), and a sore throat, a feeling as if i'm about go down with a cold.

What i'm worried most about is the constipation because it's entirely new to me, it's as if my bowels have come to a complete stand still.

I have a maternal uncle with ulcerative colitis, and a paternal cousin with crohn's. could the Giardia have triggered the Crohn's? why have i got constipation so suddenly without any real triggers? Can I still have IBD without a positive blood work. When i was diagnosed with graves disease, the blood work told me that i didn't have it but a scan confirmed that i did, so maybe it's a common thing with my body.

Thank you and sorry for the long post, I'm just so fed up!
Kay

Hi Kay and welcome.

Have you had a colonoscopy or endoscopy? That is probably a place to start.

I hope you get some answers. Sending you my support.

I have a doctor's appointment on Thursday where i can hopefully get a referral. i agree i think it's time for a colonoscopy and endoscopy.

Thanks xx
