Getting Sick

I was just told my the dr that i have a viral infection. dr said you that i can't take anything, my body just has to fight it off. i was just diagnosed with crohns about a month ago and still trying to understand it all. so my question is, with having an autoimmune disease, will my body be able to fight a viral infection. I'm kinda of scared because i think my meds are finally starting to work and praying to god this will not make me worse. oh and also i'm taking prednisone which says it is harder to fight infection.

Donna - as a general rule, any viral infection doesn't respond to antibiotics - those should be reserved for bacterial infections.......

Prednisone can make it harder to fight infections - everyone is a little different though.....I would keep taking the prescribed meds, and deal with the viral infection best you can.....been there, done that myself recently!

Hi Donna,
I've dealt with similar... the best that I've come up with is to really, really catch up on your rest and be diligent with your diet. Sleep as much as your body will let you- it's working overtime X 2 right now!

If you are congested try a neti pot. It really works for me and you don't have to take anything. You can pick one up in pretty much any drug store. Breathe Right strips also help and again no medication. As others have said, lots of rest and plenty of fluids should get you through.

the only thing that i have found is lots and lots of sleep and keep a watch on what you eat, as most things i find is that when i have a flare up anything i eat out of the ordiany will make it worst. but here is hoping for a quick recovery
