giving up

sooooooooo, on my holidays i've been really out of whack timewise, and i've been forgetting so many of my drugs its not funny.

and ya know what, i'm not feeling any worse. at all. even my pred craving is dying out.

so i think i'm going to give up drugs for a while. maybe my body can cope just fine without them for a while?

if i flare again i'll just gobble some pred and start the otthers again, but till then, bye bye little pills:D

i loved you pred, its not you its me.

be careful little buddy... keep some pred handy just in case...

i know why you're doing what you're doing... no point in taking stuff like that if your body really doesn't need it, but i'd hate you to take a nosedive health-wise too.

only coz i'm a fussy old Dingbat who cares, y'know? :)

lol, i gots me 3x 25mg bottles, and 2x 5mg bottles of pred all ready to go my dear ding:)

most things i'm on now (after my surgery) are for the arthritus, and my GI is pleased about the meth because that drug also covers my crohns.

back when i got really ill, i was living the pizza & beer bachelor life (lol, still engaged tho;)).

now i'm married and looking after myself a whole lot better (LMAO, thanks to the Wii and wifey), maybe my body is a whole lot more capable of healing itself without all the other crap i'm putting in my system.

so i'll just give it a go for a while.

maybe i wont flare again for another two months, two years, ten years, is it worth putting all those drugs in my system when its not even sick?

i hear you, and i agree! i've done it myself with drugs that one day i've gone to take, looked at the bottle & thought "do i really need this?".

you could well be right.. Crohn's as we know is one of those conditions which doesn't stay the same, sometimes in a negative way, sometimes positive. so yeah, yours could be a lot calmer and less problematic now that you're looking after yourself more. i hope so!!! :)

hey, if it all goes skew-wiff, the i can just swallow some pred, fill my butt (my actual butt, not the member here;)) with steroid suppositories and start the drugs again:D

wii doesnt want me to take the rubbish out and do the dishes!

it also lets me get on it every day, it doesnt mind if i use other wii's, it lets me play any games i want no matter how silly they are....

ummmm, hope wifey dont read this;)

I hope you can get by without any treatment, but given that the root of the problem appears to be a faulty immune response, the problem may still present.

There is a couple of non drug things you can try to hopefully help stay healthy.

The first being to make sure your vitamin D3 levels are high enough to keep the immune system working normally as possible. The old levels are found lacking by new research. It is quite possible that this is part of our problem. I copied the following from Dr. Mercola's site.

Government Recommendations for Vitamin D Levels May Soon Change

The most recent recommendations from the Institute of Medicine (IOM), which are 12 years old, recommend only 200-600 IU’s of vitamin D per day. But it’s important to realize that these recommendations were based on the vitamin D's impact on bone health, not immunity, cancer protection, or overall health.

Fortunately, due to the recent landslide of excellent vitamin D studies, the IOM is expected to review and revise their recommendation in May 2010. That’s still a ways out though, and I strongly suggest you don’t wait until then to take another look at your vitamin D status.

Likewise, the American Academy of Pediatrics recently doubled its recommended dose of vitamin D for children. Unfortunately this is still a woefully inadequate recommendation as the dose should be TEN times larger. Rather than going from 200 to 400 units per day, it should have increased to about 2,000 units per day.

And for adults, the appropriate dose would likely be closer to 4,000-5,000 units per day, but it could be even higher. In fact, according to Dr. Heaney, your body requires 4,000 IU’s daily just to maintain its current vitamin D level. So in order to actually raise your levels, you’d have to increase either your exposure to sunshine, or supplement with oral vitamin D3 (which I do not recommend without having your levels tested first).

One thing is clear. By maintaining optimal vitamin D levels, you will help prevent not only colds and flu, but all manner of disease, and maintain good health.

For a great overview of the nearly unbelievable health benefits of this vitamin, I strongly recommend you watch my one-hour free vitamin D lecture.

Fish or Krill Oil has many benefits, but it is anti inflammatory, antibacterial and helps with cholesterol levels and keeps the Omega 6 to Omega 3 ratio closer to optimal.

You may also want to look into Low Dose Naltrexone. Minimal temporary side effects and protection from other autoimmune diseases and cancer. It is cheap, and being you are currently in a good state there is a good chance it will keep you there.

I hope you never have to deal with symptoms again, but lack of symptoms does not mean the disease is not doing its damage. All of my damage was done without my knowledge, and almost no symptoms until a blockage occurred. Just my opinion.

Good Luck.

Dan

You still have to taper the pred to come off of it safely though - right??
How many mg are you on now?

Hope everything works out for you, just keep in mind that you MIGHT be feeling well right now because you ARE on the meds... things like this can come back and bite you in the rear.. litterally with this illness. Pred does nothing for me really in the way of remission, so tapering off of it and looking into other options is all I can do. I personally just wish I could stop taking the meds in general for ever and never have to look back on them, but even as I taper I have noticed changes. I'm scared of what the next few months might have in store for me. Be really careful please, like I said, just because you feel good now doesn't mean you should stop taking them. =/!

so, i'm off everything except methotrexate now. if anything i feel better, my memory seems to work better, i dont have that niggling thought of a multitude of pills to take every day. feel great:)

cant give up the meth tho, first week i tried to cut back on that had immediate effects show. 1 drug once a week is fine with me!

i know one day i'll be a needle cushion and rattle from pills again, but at the moment, i am not. awesome.

:)

really glad you're feeling good, Jed. :D i know you're sensible (as well as cute lol) & you'd take action if you saw any symptoms returning.

hope you get a roast chicken soon!

I'm glad you're feeling better Jed. I know I'm feeling better cause I took the Wii fit test for the first time in 3 months and it says I'm now 28. I started out at 47.
