So in March I see my GI on the 6th then go to my sisters on the 9th. I'll be away for three days. I'll travel on my own on the train and meet my sister there, and then on Sunday go back on my own on the train.

I'm 16 so i'm fine doing this, but i'm in a flare up at the moment with all these weird things going on and I want to see her, but her and mum planned this without my permission and I can't say no now.

My sister on the 10th - Saturday, wants to go to London, which means a long day of shopping.

Last time I went to hers I was in a slight flare up after eating onions that i'm intolerant to. I was ill in London about 5 hours away from my bed.

I need ideas of things to avoid, things to take, things to look out for.

My sister is 24 and she is brilliant, but she hasn't lived at home since she was 18, so has never dealt with me when i'm in a flare up and she might not know what to do and if I flare up badly, i'll panic and we'll get know where! Whereas if my mum is there during a flare up, I cope and i'm calm. I'm such a mummys' girl!! But can you blame me? It is scary!

So any tips? Advice?

Thanks in advance!!

Hi Tasha,

If you're in a flare just make sure you take it easy and don't try and do too much on your day out as I know this really tires me out easily.

Would probably be best that make sure you have painkillers etc with you as well.

At least the train from Dorset to London isn't too long and south west trains always seem to have toilets :)

I'll be going from Poole to Reading on the Crosscountry trains. I think they have toilets.. well any train should, right? Then South West from Reading to London I think.

It sucks that in London most toilets cost. Better start saving up!

If you are in pain my suggestion is stop eating for a few days prior to leaving. Meaning only take simple foods and possibly Ensure so you can rest your intestin. This way the flare will be lessen and your need for a toilet also. Make sure to drink a supplement though otherwise you will be very tired.

You have to pay to use the toilet in London???? That's crazy!! I hope you don't have to dig in your purse for coins before they let you into the bathroom!! I'd crap my pants for sure 9 out of 10 times!

I agree! I would hate to have to pay for the toilet, not to mention my purses are always so huge and I can never, ever find anything I need at the moment. I'd go in my pants for sure. I guess if I ever go to london, i'll wear a diaper.:rof:

Wear Depends-the ones that look like regular underwear. Even if you have access to a toliet you may have to wait and this can buy you a few extra moments. Maybe a change of undies, pants, and socks (in case things get worse).

Let your sister know how you're feeling, not to freak her out but just so she understands you're not feeling up to par and might need a bit of extra rest.

And most of all, have fun! :)

Spare pair of pants and plenty of tissue (many a times ive been to a toilet where there has been no toilet roll). wet wipes and a bag to keep them all in. With pain killers just keep to paracetamol as theres others (NSAIDs) that can be bad for the gut

NACC do a "can't wait" card which should help people understand if you need to go to the toilet quickly

A diaper for sure!!! I'll have to go buy some depends. I don't think I can share with my 9 month old :) Maybe worth a try.... :ylol:

In all seriousness tash... I'd make sure I took all my meds with me especially all of the PRN stuff. My meds that I absolutely have to have are my pain meds, nausea medicine, immodium (i never take this unless I'm in a bind) and Tums/Rolaids.

Be sure you tell your sister about the rough time you've been having and take breaks often. When I'm out trying to shop I always have to take breaks and sit down and get a drink with some sugar in it to help with my depleted sugars. I try to keep something with me all of the time.

I hope you end up having a great time with your sister!! I'd love to go to London sometime and see it! hope you get to feeling better soon.

Oh I thought of something else-see of your doctor will prescribe some flare meds, just in case. And have some electrolyte type drinks in case your potassium drops-with the blood loss you've had you need to take extra care of yourself!
