I copied this from a post that Crohns08 wrote today.
(I hope you don't mind, Crohns08)
I think it's such good advice it should be at the beginning of the thread so more people can find it.
I've heard of these 504 plans, but never even thought of applying it to Crohn's.
It's like getting yourself labeled with a disability. Something to look into for those of you with attendance problems, or legit trouble getting your work done.

Crohns08 said -".... I got a 504 with my school which states because of my illness, it cuts at my learning ability, and some other stuff. It's a formal document that the school has so it understands why I am absent so much.

I also am taking all of my classes online except for my latin class. I am taking only that class at school from 12:18 to 1:15. And let me tell you, I am still exhausted!

See if you can't get something similar to my 504, or see if you can take some of your classes online. I am in high school, but my Guidance counselor told me that I could do this in college as well if I needed to."

Here is a link, if you are looking for more info, or you can just google 504 plan.

my mom just went in to talk with the district office an the principal and nurse of my school. she gave them doctor's notes, explained that my excessive absences were for a legitimate reason, and it was all good. i have a pretty good work ethic, so even when i am sick, i do okay in school. when i was first diagnosed my gpa dropped to the lowest it has ever been, and i'm still paying for it... i probably could have pulled a few strings to be excused from some of my work but it didn't. this year i absolutely CANNOT flare, because i have 5 ap classes and i'm already basically committing suicide with my courseload and extracurriculars.

in college i'll probably go to the disability office.

I have done this during high school and college and even though I never missed a day the schools greatly appreciated knowing my illness. Great suggestion.

it seems kind of like overkill to me unless you REALLY need it. i go to school even when i probably shouldn't, but i can see why some people might want to do all the official documents and stuff.

I just saw this, I don't mind at all! I got my 504 because I am so exhausted, and I am still trying to get things under control. Hopefully I can go back at the end of the semester, but I do have things set up for the rest of the school year if I need it.
