Well I had my colonoscopy yesterday, and although she took many biopsies, she said it is her opinion that I have Crohn's in the lower part of my small intestine. She is going to do another type of test to check the rest of the small intestine. All I know is I am really sore today. She already put me on Pentasa 8 pills a day. I am a little overwhelmed right now. I guess I need a few days to let it soak in. Also she said I need to consult a Cardiologist, my heart rate was very high during the procedure. Up to 150 under sedation. Just something else to worry about.

If you're like me, your pulse is really high because of the anemia. I was told I don't produce enough blood so my heart has to pump faster to keep up. My pulse is usually between 100 and 125 or so. Just a thought. A lot of Crohn's patients have anemia because of a problem with iron absorption.

My pulse is always over 90. The highest it has gone is 133. The inflammation puts stress on the body and could make your pulse rise. When my inflammation has gone down so does my pulse.

Hi mjmom, at least they are fairly sure what is wrong with your gi system now. Hope the Pentasa helps. The heart problem could be nothing - don't worry too much. I've had some 'blips' on the screen too but the docs think it isnt any permanent and will settle down soon. Hope its the same with you. Thinking of you.

The pain from the procedure is aweful, just had one too.
The pentasa is usually given to moderate cases though. So there is a silver lining.
Hope it all works well for ya.

Well just heard from my GI. I have a Small Bowel Series scheduled for Monday @7:30 a.m. Also talked to my PCP and she said she is not to concerned about my heart rate that it was probably due to the stress my body is under right now. However, she will see me Monday as well. I want to thank everyone here for such tremendous support. I feel like no one in my family or close friends really get this. I hope over time I can be as supportive of everyone here as you all have been to me. Thanks:) ,

Hi there. I was recently diagnosed too after a colonoscopy. I was really convinced it was something else, and it was overwhelming to get an official diagnosis. But the good thing is now that we know what is wrong with us, hopefully we can do things to keep it under control!

I am taking Entocort -- a mild steroid -- which is working really well for me so far. My Crohn's is also moderate as opposed to severe. I am going for a small bowel follow through, but couldn't get an appointment until mid December! You are lucky you were able to schedule one so soon. I hope the Pentasa helps you and good luck on Monday! Keep us updated.

Hi mrjmom,

Glad you are finally getting some answers and can now work towards improvement on the health front.

Stress can have a huge impact on your wellbeing on the crohns and heart rate aspects.

Hang in there things will improve!! Looking forward to seeing you around more. I think you know we will always listen and understand no matter what the problem is you are facing.

Thinking of you!

My PCP said the same thing about my heart rate. I had a small bowel series also. Be prepared that you will be drinking a ton of the barium stuff. They had me drink some, then take some pictures, then drink more, then take more pictures. It went on for a couple hours I think. Just drink it as fast as you can and hope it goes through your body fast. The faster it goes through the quicker they get the pictures they need and then you can leave.
