Hi Folks,

First off, my apologies for not being on-line in ages. Work, work and more work!
Anyhow recent gastroenteritis lasted about a week and now I'm left feeling drained faint and dizzy! I have never experienced dehydration like this before and I even fainted for first time in my life. Been to hospital, had iv fluids and hopefully back on the mend. I have been signed off by my GP for another week to recover but I'm a little concerned how long this may take as I am still feeling faint and exhausted.
My crohns may have flared a little but they're not too worried as it was pretty well controlled before I got this nasty bug. Before all this kicked off I was working 12-14hr shifts offshore and doing my bit to keep fit. I cannot believe how all this changed in the space of a few days! Scary really

Sorry to hear you're not well! Are you drinking Dioralyte or something similar to help replace lost salts? Hope you feel better soon- I remember the last time I had a stomach bug although the bug itself was a 24 hour one, it took about a week to get completely back to normal in terms of eating and pooping! So don't be surprised if it takes you even longer to be back to your normal self.

Thanks Rebecca,
No - just drinking lots of fluids and eating small amounts often as recommended by my GP. My bowels have returned to normal, albeit with some abdominal cramps but I'm way better in that respect. I am generally fit and healthy otherwise so hence the dizzy spells is worrying me a bit.
Oh - a baby on the way, congrats. Hope all goes well for you :)

I would give rehydration fluids a go- you can buy sachets from the chemist or make it yourself using salt and sugar (there's a recipe on the diarrhoea wiki page). The dizzy spells could be mild dehydration or low blood pressure caused by losing too much salt.

Hi Michael. My guts are much better now thanks although the lethargy and light headed/dizzy spells remain, prob due to my blood pressure being a bit low. I've never felt so aching and tired. Hope to be back to work on Monday as I don't do sitting around well.
Cheers
