Had Crohn's now have Ulcerative Colitis...11 years now.

Hi y'all I'm Shannon or Shan. I got diagnosed with Crohn's just before I turned 20 years old. Lived with it with no real symptoms except the pain omg the pain :frown: In 04 I 7 inches of my bowel removed and yay everything was GREAT!!! :dance:. Then the best thing in my life happened in Dec. 08 I had a beautiful baby girl by Oct. of 09 OMG I was sooo sick like nothing I've ever experienced! I am not living in a state where I didn't know how to see a doctor (originally from Missouri no insurance) So I let it go I know I know stupid!!! Ended up in the hospital in Jan of 10 was told that the Crohn's was back was put on Sulfersalizan(sp) it didn't really do anything for me....Fast forward a about a year I got really really bad I couldn't do anything with out going the bathroom on myself :blush: Was in the hospital again this time they did a colonoscopy and said it wasn't Crohn's but Ulcerative Colitis. On meds now doing good for the most part. On Prednisone and 6Mp. Glad to be here hope to make friends and have a place to vent and stuff like that. Bye for now!!

Hi Shan :bigwave: Glad you joined our community, everyone is friendly and helpful. I found after the birth of my daughter I got sick and when she was 4 I had my first resection. I still think hormones has big part in the Crohns or colitis cure..someday. Pred is evil but it does work until you get down around 15mg. Most of us do. Have you not tried any of the biologics? Not sure if it is for UC too. My brother has UC and my sister has crohns colitis but I dont bleed, they do, but i get the pain. Not a great trade off .

You will make friends and in the 3 years I have been here I have made alot of keepers. Good info here and you can share your stories too! Welcome aboard!

I still am not sure what the difference is between the two I was soo glad to be in remission after the surgery I knew that even with the surgery it could come back. Sometimes I wish I still just had the pain lol I know that sounds stupid but, the stuff I go thru now with the UC SUCKS! I've not tried and biologics as long as I stay at about 20mg of Pred (which I HATE) I seem to not really need anything else Asacol works really well for me BUT OMG EXPENSIVE!!!! So my GI Doc put me on 6Mp which was something with Remicade that kept my Crohn's under control. So I take 75Mg of is and 20 of the Pred a day. A friend told me to try Aloe juice I might look into it anything to help control the bathroom problems lol. Thanks for the warm welcome Pen, been looking around can't wait to get to know y'all!

I feel ur pain. I had two really well respected doctors tell me I had ulcerative colitis and my lates GI doc says I definately have crohn's. WTF???

Hi and welcome, Shan! Well, having UC rather than CD is good news, if you ask me! So congratulations! UC is only in the large bowel, whereas CD is anywhere from mouth to anus. Check out our UC Forum. You'll find plenty of friends and support 'round here.
