Have been taking small amounts of go-lytely everyday for a year now, is it dangerous?

I've been taking 1-4 250 ml cups of go-lytely to treat my constipation (nothing else has worked, am also on a vegan diet) and I haven't been having any issues until a couple of days ago when my stool was too watery, should I be worried?

Hmmm, I understand dealing with constipation sucks, but I don't think regular use of a laxative, any laxative is a good thing. It makes complications in healthy people, let alone Crohnnies. Also, go lightly had ALOT of sodium, which is never a good thing to have on a regular basis.

I deal with this too, I go back and forth between constipation and diarrhea. What works for me is Metamucil and pumpkin. Not together, lol. I drink a glass of Metamucil at night and in the morning I eat about a 1/4-1/2 cup pumpkin. Not the pie filling, the pure pumpkin from Libby's-it really has made a huge difference for me, without the worry of complications.

If your stool is watery, I would stop the go-lightly. You might want to tell the doctor about drinking the go lightly regularly and make sure it's OK to quit cold turkey-sometimes it causes problems if you take laxatives regularly.

Hope this helps-keep us posted! :rosette2:

Why would anyone.... or shall I say HOW could anyone get themselves to drink that crap daily!? A better person than I... I suppose :)

I agree with MountainGem... really probably not a good idea... I do know that go-lytely is kinda harsh. Miralax could be a more gentler solution as well... but only if your doc advises it

Thank you for the reply:), my current GI is aware that I am on a go-lytely regimen and my first one is the one who prescribed it to me. As for metamucil I have tried it, doesn't work because I have inflammation between my small and large intestine which makes high fiber food tough to digest, so tough that taking metamucil gives me infrequent bowel movements and makes me double over in pain. I eat control amount of fiber I eat and the liquid laxative keeps my bowels moving for now. I agree with what you're saying so I have started tapering off my daily consumption a few days ago hoping things go back to normal so I can reduce my dependency on the laxative.

Have you tried Kondremul? We gave it to my son when he had encoprisis to get and keep him regular. It's mineral oil based and tastes like marshmallows! For him we used it more like a regulator than a laxative -just a little bit each night kept things going.

Good luck! I hope you find something that works!
