Have you ever heard of a person getting a cyst (say a sebaceous cyst) on top of an abscess?
On Sat. night I started to get back what I thought was an abscess. I currently have a seton in there but there was no mistaking the redness, swelling / pressure, pain, and fever. Saw my surgeon this morning and he said I had healed too well / quickly around the seton. He made some large incisions as before with my first I&D and also did a lot of squeezing.
While expelling the pus he said that something strange was happening: some of what was coming out wasn't viscous but instead had the consistency of cottage cheese. He is doing a culture of this "cheese" like material and will get back to me. He wasn't clear on whether I have a cyst on top of an abscess; a cyst below the abscess; or if this cyst and abscess / fistula are related or independent.
I'm sort of frustrated that there's not much clarity right now. I'm worried because he said there should be discharge but so far there isn't any. If it really is the "cheese" that's clogging things up, it shouldn't be possible to discharge right? And if there's a cyst, isn't the only solution to fully open it up and scrape it out? I'm currently running a higher temp than at any previous pt this wknd and am worried it's because the cyst, whether infected or not, hasn't been fully expelled.
Please share if you have heard of or experienced anything like this. I'm continuing to read through the forums but haven't found any threads addressing this yet.
