having flares

well i've read alot of stories here and on other sites. most people refer to a flare as d. before i was diagnosed the d was the least of my worries. my main thing was the pain. pain in my stomach, under my ribs, i'm guessing in my intestines and when i went to the bathroom it felt like i was releasing glass. some people have said the first flare is the worst because you don't know what it is and others say its not because it progresses with time. has anyone else had this problem or does a flare usually just refer to having really bad d.

I have only just been diagnosed but from december through till march i was vomiting non stop pretty much , lost loads of weight , severe headaches , blurred double vision and could barely get out of bed

I assume this was a flare although it was said i had gastritis (over the phone) to be honest it was that bad at one point i was actually planning my funeral in my head , i honestly thought i was going to die , every time i sat up the room started to spin

Oddly enough i dont suffer from D or severe stomach cramps (i get windy type pains and let off gas a lot but thats it)

Im still not right since i was like that and feel extremly tired most days with headache and feeling sick xxxx

hello Donna,
I have similar symptoms and have found it hard to believe the Crohn's diagnosis, however I was shown the pathology report , &photos of the area where I have it in the descending colon.
My initial symptoms were blood in stools which were either formed or semi formed. I have experiences of string like stools and pellets and sometimes a D. attack.
Mostly it is abdominal pain down the left side and also under ribs., sometimes in the right side also.
When I had upper endoscopy there were small ulcers in the duodenum.
I think Crohn's symptoms vary from person to person, there is no "one size fits all".
A flare for me is acute abdominal pain and is usually treated and responds to cortifoam
and nexium for th pain under the ribs and stomach.
Trouble is it gets better then starts again two or three weeks later.
I am told thats Crohns!
Bye for now

Flare for me is terrible. I have severe pain in my right abdomen, and under my ribs on left side. I have nausea, d, sometimes fever and vomiting. I get really bad back and flank pain. Im treated with Entocort and pentasa for my CD along with pain meds. For my pain under my ribs they say its severe heartburn or GERD and they give me Previcid for this. I think its all the CD as the Previcid doesnt really work well. If Im having bad pain in my right side, I almost always have burning and pain under my ribs and antacid doesnt seem to help. This flare Im in now started with the worse burning all over my upper tummy and under my ribs, went away and then BAM!! Two days later doubled over in the worse pain ever and couldnt stop throwing up....in the hospital with a colitis diagnosis, to be release a week later and then back three weeks later with much worse symptoms....finally after 9 days in the hospital they presumed crohns and started treating me....seems to be working but still experience all those things I mentioned....just not as severe or as often. I have to think the meds are working.
