Just wondering before I was diagnosed with UC I didn't eat healthy and my body was normal never had any problems with it. But then I went on this health kick and I did everything healthy. I juiced EVERYTHing and drank it. Stayed away from soda and did what I thought would help my body, vitamins, exercised, but I noticed my body went down hill after that. I was just wondering if our bodies sorta repel the good nutricion. I was just wondering if most of you that have these problems noticed this. Because a lot of people I know that suffer from this are trainers and people that do things to better improve their health but it seems to make it worse.

There is no actual study that shows that diet causes or cures Crohns (or any I.B.D.) As yet, no-one knows what causes the illness.

There are some people with food allergies who are wrongly told they have an I.B.D. When they address those allergies, and recover, they may believe that food cures I.B.D.
There are people with confirmed I.B.D who also have food allergies (or intolerances.) When their diet is adjusted they definitely see an improvement in symptoms.
Then there are the majority of sufferers who have to adjust their diet due to mechanical issues arising from the illness such as ulceration, narrowing, inflammation, scar tissue etc. Insoluble fiber becomes the greatest challenge in these cases. Some other food types (lactose containing foods for example) can also become a problem due to mechanical issues involving lactase secretion. However these majority of people do not generally have any real food intolerances. They can however end up with nutrient deficiencies which need correcting, and which can improve their health but which do not cure the illness.
There are also some foods found to increase the inflammatory response in the intestines of some individuals, and they are also limited where an issue arises.
Then there is the differing severity of I.B.D to deal with....
No two people respond the same way to the same diet.

I am also a person who was on a vegetarian whole food diet - and a trainer! Crohns did not spare me because of my diet or my state of health. But I do not attribute that to a cause. There are people who live on McDonalds and survive to old age untarnished by ill health. There are people who in spite of doing everything they can to stay healthy, end up battling some awful disease.
We do know of many health conditions which are directly related to obesity, and to nutrient deficiencies. So far, I.B.D. has not been shown to be one of them.

Hope you find a balanced diet to help with your symptoms - good luck.

I was going through this forum and a lot of these people are people that are very active and really take care of themselves and look rather good for being sick. Me too. people say I look young and I am very much into health stuff and taking care of myself. Also people that I actually know are trainers and people that have spent a lot of their life staying away from alcohal and unhealthy stuff. I notice people that go to Mcdonalds everyday and totally not take care of themselves dont get ibd of any sort just your notmal upset tummys.. There are a lot of people in my family that DO NOT TAKE care of themselves and never have any problems I have.

they Might not be feeling it now but trust me it will eventually catch up with them either in diabetes or some sort of cancer or disese later in life I beleive what they are doing to themselves now and seem healthy will actch up with them tnere has been plenty of info about this my cousin is helathy but eats like crap and its starting to catch up with him hes getting fat andsays hes having trouble passing stool and I say why do you continue to do this to yourself he says you live once fair enough but its the quality of life you want to have.

And now he sleeps all day is lazy as cause he has no energy from eating crap all the time

sounds to me like you want to eat crappy and not pay the price for it

We were just having this discussion on the parents of kids with IBD forum. We all felt like our kids were especially healthy eaters and were rarely sick. We were all wondering if it was our kids great immune systems that got them in trouble. Maybe eating really healthy has boosted your immune system and now it is attacking healthy tissue more? Hopefully someday science will have this figured out for us. Wish I had some advice for you, eating healthy seems they way to go but not if you aren't feeling well. :(

johnnysmom> Thank you. My friend and I thought this also. Before I got my illeostomy I was sick and decided not to eat healthy. I ate top ramen, mcdonald, pizza with extra cheese and oddly I got better. So I thought how in the world would I get the nutrition from this so I read somehwere if you juiced your veggies and dumped it in your bath water ( or rub it on your skin) than it would get absorbed in your bloodstream faster than to actually eat it So I did and funny how weird, good weird I felt after each "juice bath" but it was for the better. I thought maybe I would introduce myself back to fruits and veggies and lay off of bad stuff again I flared then I got pregnant then it went down hill from there. Even now looking at a salad scares the bajesus out of me. I would LOVE to eat a cobb salad. Someone said on here that a salad would kick her a** if she looked at it the wrong way. I know exaclty what she means..lol

Before getting ill i'd say i ate a very balanced diet. i ate a lot of crap and fast food but i also ate veg and fruit aswell. Now i cant go near veg or "healthy" stuff. My body just cant handle it at all. so for me eating stuff like pizzas, pasta, potatoes, white bread and rice, oh and chicken are pretty much what i stick to now because i know my body can handle it.

I'm not saying eating healthy stuff makes my condition flare or worse.. but i just dont digest it very well, if at all. although a lot of that could be down to having an ileostomy.

I find my son doesn't want veggies or fruit. He also doesn't want really greasy food either. I think there is a lot to be said about listening to your body. I tell him if something sounds awful to him, not to eat it. Sometimes I feel guilty not having him eat more healthy but when I make him eat something he doesn't want he just eats less. This disease is hard enough as it is, I don't want to make it harder for him. But we are new to all this and just working through it together. :)
