Does anyone else get heart palpitations on occasion? Since I've been under heavy stress lately I feel that my panic syndrome is returning and I definitely have some GAD right now.

So of course when my heart jumps, it sends me into a freaking panic attack.

I'm going to cut out caffeine tomorrow. I cant live like this.

anemia?

this happened to me a couple years ago and for the longest time i didnt know what the little jumpy feeling was. then i got some bloods done and my hemoglobin was like 6.5. when the anemia gets better, the palps go away!

get some blood work done!

it still happens to mo sometimes when im real sick, but now i just know that its a sign of the anemia worsening.

how often does it happen? at least once a day?

It happens to me when I am on prednisone, and it happened when I was hyperthyroid.
About once a week it will happen for no apparent reason too. Scares the hell out of me, but just goes away. Twice they hooked me up to one of those EKG (? not sure if that's it) readers, and it showed nothing abnormal. Of course - it never happens when you are hooked up - right?
I don't know what GAD is.
See if cutting out the caffeine helps.
Hope you feel better Kittee.

I have had them all of my life. Sometimes I slam my fist into my chest to get it to stop. Usually they just happen for a couple of seconds and stops on its own. I have not been getting them much lately, but I am also taking Magnesium and it is supposed to help in some cases.

Caffeine, Nicotine, and other stimulants can make mine appear.

For a second I thought you were replying to my post, but I realized I called it otherwise. If you look under this same forum, find my thread about sinus tachycardia, it has all the details about what's happened to me.

I've had 2 attacks since then, and twice I was lying down and nearly asleep when it caught me. The 2nd time of the 3 main attacks I was completely asleep.

It scares the crap out of me too. I have my 1 or 2 cups of coffee a day and that's all for caffeine, its the same amount i've been drinking for years and years!

*hugs*

Glad to hear I'm not the only one. (And that I'm not going to fall over dead from it lol)

Very rapid heart rate...sometimes for me it feels like my heart is 'vibrating'. With my attacks my heart rate ranges from 130-180 (at least, that's what its been in the ambulances and emergency rooms)

Sometimes too fast, but also sometimes irregular beats. Like it sometimes feels like all my blood is stuck behind something cuz my heart stops for a sec, and then beats extra hard like it is struggling to get something through, and then tries to catch up. It reminds me of the Simpson's cartoon where they show homer's heart acting all funky.
Also, it can feel like extra strong beats, like your heart is gonna jump out of your chest.

I consider palpitations a misfiring of the heart beat. Feels like it is working backwards or sudden quickening that goes away in seconds. Funky heart beat is a good explanation.

Tachycardia is a different animal.

I suppose that most palpitations are harmless, but I am quite sure it can be an indication of a more serious problem. Since I am still alive after 47 years of this, I am assuming mine are not life threatening. If I wake up dead, I will have to reconsider the matter.

If you wake up dead, and are able to reconsider that matter, could you post just one last time to let us know??

i get them allot to, no doctor can figure it out so...... i must be nuts, but I started with chrons symptoms when i was 16 then 20 some years later had to have emergency surgury with crohns

I get a heart rate above 130 when I have panic attacks at my Remi infusions (they are actually a weirdo reaction I have to Benedryl) and they don't feel good. Also if I'm stressed my heart will beat really hard and skip some beats.

thats a good description---working backwards.
instead up pumping blood "forwards" if you will, it feels like your heart all the sudden sucks it back in for a beat.
very weird.

Yeah i have that effect on women sometimes..... its ok, just take a deep breath and say to yourself... look... don't touch, look... don't touch :)

LOL! yup, you are just the cause of everyones heart palpitations. must be nice huh to have such power, huh? :D

Yup Kello - that's why there are only chicks on this thread ('cept for Dan) cuz Mark causes it all. Not really a Crohn's symptom, these heart palpitations... just a Crohn's FORUM thing. Mark's fault (or insert any other cute guy's name here, Drew for example...)
