hello - 28 years with crohn's
glad to be aboard. i have had crohn's for 28 years now and i'm 45. no surgeries, no symptoms for years, no medication.
when i had first flare-up at 17, i lost about 30 pounds and almost flunked grade 12 i missed so much school. was finally referred to a specialist, diagnosed and put on prednisone.
for the next 25 years i would go about 3 years, sometimes 5 between flareups. i always needed pred. to recover. i began running to control stress levels.
about 3-4 years ago my wife asked me to try the activia yogurt. it cleared up my the mild flare-up i was having at the time and i continued on for a couple years with it. my doctor was sceptical about my story.
after that, i started looking at my diet, did some research and started cutting back on sugar and refined foods. i still indulge, but i eat much more fruit and vegetables, fish and nuts than i used to. no more activia needed.
now i am taking 1000mg of fish oil supplements daily and feel great.
i feel i am managing my disease well and i would urge others to look at what they are eating and consider making healthy changes. changing your diet is very difficult (it took me a couple years) but it has paid off. doctors can't believe how i look and feel without drugs.
