I guess I technically count as undiagnosed. I'm in my mid-20s, male, with an appropriate weight and high fitness. In 2010 I had appendicitis and had the little bugger removed. It turned out to be highly abnormal (in the pictures it was about 3x the normal size and highly irregular. Pathology reported that the weirdness was crypt abscess formations, and the surgeon and the pathologist both said this was a likely diagnosis of Crohn's. Apart from the occasional night spent on the toilet, I'd not had any major symptoms before this so my old primary care doc (ugh) decided that it was nothing and no follow up should be done. Since I was asymptomatic I was OK with that. I began having some pelvic pain in 2011, which my doc suspected was a hernia. Ultrasound was clear except for mild lymph node swelling in the area.

Fast forward to 2012. I begin having worse pelvic pain (groin/inguinal/perenial), painful pooping, some abdominal pain, and loose stools,. Sometimes it's wet sand, other times outright diarrhea, still other times just loose oily blah. No normal days. My (now different) primary doc mocked me when I suggested this might be the Crohn's causing problems. He grudgingly tried to send me for an abdominal/pelvic CT, which I declined because it's a huge dose of radiation for what amounts to a fishing expedition. He basically shrugs and won't help beyond that because my blood counts are normal. And that's where we are today. My doc doesn't care and I can't do anything short of paying out of pocket to see someone else.

I ended up at this forum when Googling information on a liquid diet, because at this point I'm willing to try anything to feel better. So hello!

Hi Siege, why don't you ask for a faecal calprotectin test and a colonoscopy. Then if the calprotectin is significantly elevated, ask for an MR enterography (no radiation). Hopefully by then you'll have some useful information to proceed with.

Best wishes.

Hello and welcome to the forum :)

I am sorry to hear that you are having to deal with health care 'professionals' such as this. My first thought would be is try and see if you can get to see a new doc who understands your concerns about the CT so other testing can perhaps be arranged and I would hope it is on file somewhere the comments made previously when you had your appendix out so they can have a look at these and take if from there.

We do also have an undiagnosed forum that is worth checking out so you can have a chat with the folks here as well: http://www.crohnsforum.com/forumdisplay.php?f=75.

Please keep us updated on how you get on.

Welcome! Sorry to hear what you're going through.

Is it possible to obtain your medial records from the surgery and the doc who said things were consistent with crohn's? Sometimes medical professionals are not professional. Just arrogant. If there is any way possible to switch docs or get a referral to a GI doc. Then by all means do so! For the time being, hang in there wander around the forum. Read threads folks have already posted and ask lots of questions. I'm sure you'll find your not alone.

Blessings, NL

Just a quick update, I was able to secure a referral to a GI doc at my annual physical (different doc). The GI ordered a colonoscopy and bloodwork-aplenty. The bloodwork was all normal, including gluten, CRP, ESR, thyroid, and CBC. Still having symptoms, though, so we'll see what the scope shows... :S
