Hi Everyone,

I found this forum wile browsing the internet and thought it would be a good idea to join.

I am a 24 year old female. I was relatively fit anf healthy until I became sick last year.

I guess I had flare ups for about 8 months unil I was finally diagnosed last August with Crohns. I was initially on steroids for 8 weeks to get it under control and then started on my medication which i am still taking Mentasa.

I am well now and since being on the steroids, thank god Im fine.

I have read a few of your posts and I do feel quite luck as I've read some real nightmare stories. Maybe its because Ive only had it a year or so and Ive got that to come but Ill deal with that when it happens.

Im a bit anxious today, I have a full colonoscopy this Thursday, I have had a similar one before but Im being sedated this time so just a bit worried about needles etc :(

I feel quite lonely today, eventhough like everyone else we all have people around us who care but you feel like youre all alone because its only you whos experiencing these things.

Anyways, enough of my sob story. Hope youre all ok and Im sure we'll speak soon :)

Don't feel lonely! You have found us now!

The great thing about this site, is pretty much whatever you Re feeling or going through, someone here has been through it and just about everyone understands!

Regards your colonoscopy, try not to fret, and tell them when you get there if you are a bit freaked out by the needles, everytime I have been in, everyone has been very kind and considerate.

If you need advice or support, just post on here, somewhere in the worl someone is always awake and ready to offer you a strong shoulder to lean on.

Best thing I ever did joining the crohns forum.

Welcome and good luck x

:welcome: to the forum!
Sorry you have been diagnosed with Crohns but you have come to the right place for support, whether you have it mild or severe, we all share the same frustration, loneliness, anger at times but we try to help each other by some laughs.

Colonscopies are not anyone's favourite thing to do but it doesnt bother me just the not eating part. My doc chose a good prep, and I am put out, and for the first time last time the nurse got the IV in the first go... bliss.

Let us know how your test comes out, your Gi usually tells you right after. You will be fine, and so glad you found us, join in. Lots of wonderful people here to help along the way and much needed information and experiences.

Good luck and keep us updated!

Hi Both,

Thank you for your kind words.

I suppose youre right, theres always someone on here who has been through the same. Its difficult because I feel like my family can never understand as they are not going through it.

Luckily the nurse that is doing the test is amazing, shes so kind and considerate so I am feeling more relaxed as shes doing it. Im not actually sure why theyre doing it, I think its just to see the extend of the crohns and where it has affected.

Thanks, Ill let you know how I get on xx

Good luck with the colonoscopy! I've had 4 of them in the past 3 years, and each time, fortunately, it went smoothly. I'm terrified of needles, so I wasn't thrilled with the sedation method either! But, I had a good anthesethiologist and they were gentle and patient with me. I find taking slow deep breaths (in through the nose and out through the mouth) helped immensely. I also went to a hypnotherapist for help with my phobia (I used to get just hysterical whenever anyone would even mention me getting a needle) and that's helped alot too.

Again, good luck! Try not to worry...

Cindy

Don't listen to these guys, Dani!! They will brainwash you and than you'll be addicted to this place. LOL

Good luck with your colonoscopy. You will be glad that you're getting put out. Don't let the needles bother you. They only use the huge ones on guys like me. lol

:welcome: Dani!! Just wanted to mention that you may be one of the very lucky ones that only (and I don't mean only in a negative way - no matter what level, it can still be bad for you!) have mild disease and never have it progress any further. There are many stories on here - don't let them scare you - just know that the quieter you can keep your disease process the better chance you have of avoiding the bigger issues later in life. Good luck to you - glad you have found us.

Thanks for the lovely welcome and support.

I sart my fluid diet and laxatives today at 2. Im going in 10am tomorrow. Il'l let you all know how I get on.

I am feeling more relaxed than I was when I originally posted.

Thanks again. Speak to you all soon xx

Hiya :) welcome to the forum!

Was just wondering, what preparation are you taking for the scopey?

Thanks again everyone.

Its called Moviprep?

Welcome, Dani. Good luck with your scope tomorrow. Mine is Friday. Too bad we couldn't sign up for some discount. LOL.

Never used Moviprep. I'm using the Miralax prep. Good luck tonight. Let us know how it goes tomorrow!

How did you find the Moviprep? Theres quite a lot of it to get down! something like 3 litres of fluid in total? Did you have any squash or anything with it?

Hope everything went ok with the scopey :ysmile:

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for all the messages!

Im back home and feeling ok. It went well, the nurses in my hospital are fantastic. I had sedation but was awake and gas and air which seemed to do the trick for the pain.

Good news too, since my last scopey the inflammation from last time has healed ans theres no new inflammation and none on the right side of my bowel either, just a bit on the left side.

So, my meds seem to be doing a good job! I dont have to go bakc for another scope for 7 years!!!!! :)

Feeling great, apart from the hangover feeling but really positive.

Thank you all very much for your support. Just goes to show what 'special' people us crohnies are, ha ha!!

Hey Binx,

The moviprep was disgusting, I had to drink 2 litres, it took me 8 hours to drink it and I didnt even finish it. It was bitter and I was almost heaving by the end.

Yes, I had orange squash, it made it a little more pleasant. I also found keeping it in the fridge made it better too. Youre not allowed to put blackcurrant with it.

Dani, that is Great News!!

Great news, Dani! Hopefully I'll make it two for two.

I hate the prep. I'm starving and can't eat for another 16 hours.

Welcome Dani! Hope you continue to keep things under control.

And yes---Moviprep is very hard to finish. It has a gross lemon taste, and now I don't even like the smell of lemons anymore!
