Helminthic Therapy?

Crohn's Disease Forum

Help Support Crohn's Disease Forum:

I havent got a chance to check out the link yet...

But I've talked to people that have done this, Its a "worm" therapy. Its VERY expensive, makes Remicade look like penny candy. And is made by a company in Germany.

But the few people I've talked to that have used it said that if they had the money, they would buy it again in a heart beat.

I have heard of it but never tried it. It seems to me as something I would not want in my intestines. Also the amount of money just to get a worm in your system.

One person I talked to, which was a senior moderator on another forum, said they payed a little over 6,000 dollars for it, it worked better then any medication they had taken before, and if they had the money they would keep getting it.

Insurance most likely will not pay for something like that.

if you get it through prescription it should be reimbursable... not sure tho. it looks extremely promising though. i guess we just have to wait

I don't know of any Insurance provider that would classify the use of parasites
for the treatment of crohn's disease as something they would pay for... Their more than likely call it "an experimental treatment with no real scientfic data"...

They like doing that...

Remicade was covered for me also, I only had a $35 dollar co-pay when I recieved it.

I understand about the experimental thing. I've signed papers saying I have "refractory crohns disease and am steriod dependant" just so my insurance, which is medicare AND medicaid, yea the govt., will cover things such as, methotrexate and I believe I did one for Remicade also, and my GI had to write them a letter saying Remicade was a last resort type thing before surgery.
