My husband was diagnosed with Crohns almost 7 years ago and last winter he stopped responding to Humira (adalimumab). His doctor said he wanted to run a test which would be sent out of state (there was no mention of the cost of the test or that our insurance might not cover it). Almost a year later we received a bill from Prometheus Therapeutics & Diagnostics for $2500 and our insurance told us they won't cover the cost because it is considered experimental. The test results stated that there was 0 U/ml Serum Infliximab Concentration/Antibodies to Infliximab Concentration...Infliximab is Remicade. When asking the doctor why the test said it was completed for Remicade when my husband wasn't even taking Remicade he said that there wasn't a test for Humira at that time (it came out in mid 2013) and that the Remicade test looked for the same types of antibodies.
I am wondering if anyone else has ever had this situation happen/any suggestions on what to do next? We were totally taken back with the recent bill we received for $2500.
