I recenlty went to the hopsital because I couldn't take the pain anymore. My blood work came back normal and my upper GI and small intestines look okay and the ultra sound looked goo too. BUT... no one can tell me what's going on. It hurts when I sleep on my left side and it feels like a sharp pain- like I just ran 3 miles. Sometimes I feel like i'm going to get sick. Has anyone every experienced this before and if so what is it? I've been this way for 6 months now and I can't take it anymore. Do you think it might be my spleen?

Thanks,
Julie

hi Julie.. i get this quite often, have done for years & despite various visits to gps, telling my surgeon, and having the area scanned, i still have no clear explanation as to what it is. it's been suggested that it was adhesion pain, but my last surgery was over 10 years ago. more likely was the other suggestion that it is diaphragm pain - although i don't know what causes this.

i sometimes get referred pain radiating to the tip of my left shoulder when i get that pain under my left ribs too.

the only thing that helps me is changing positions, and stretching the area out by lifting my left arm up over my head.

Thank you for responding to my email. I don't usually have pain that goes up to my left shoulder. Hum... I will definitely try your suggestions when I have pain. I appreciate your help.

If you've had a scope of your stomach and duodenum and it came out fine it's most likely IBS. Real IBS can be extremely painful to the point of disability. Your chances of IBS get really high if you also have crohn's. The other option is referred pain from the last half of your colon.

I get a bit of pain on the left side too, and could never figure out what is was. Colt's IBS hypothesis sounds really plausible.

i had that a while back and it was my gullbladder do i had the whole thing removed cuz it didnt work plus it had gull stones(which i keept^.^) but i still got it after the sugery and they still dun no what it is they said it could be ghost gullbladder pain lol my gullbladder is haunting me^.^ so yea idk what it is but you may still wanna have your gullbladder checked.
