Hey everyone!
This is my first ever post on this forum. It might be all over the place so apologies in advance
I'm 16 years old and was diagnosed with Crohn's disease in July 2014. At the time I took Prednisolone for a month to reduce my inflammation in addition to 25 mg 6MP and 1000mg Pentasa. After that, I stopped the Prednisolone and continued with 6MP and Pentasa, slowly raising dosages of each. I'm now at 50 mg 6MP and 2000mg Pentasa.
My stomach pains have never been super bad. They would come for a few minutes or even seconds and then disappear. These pains would happen around 2-4 times a day on average. However, it was constant so I guess I just learned to live with it.
I have also been feeling constipated for a few months. I would go to the bathroom and sit there for half an hour but nothing would happen. The stool itself would be normal however, and I never had any diarrhea. When I went to the doctor about this, he gave me some laxatives and my mom recommended to take probiotics and omega 3 supplements as well.
But for some reason I stopped taking the laxatives for about a month. I also have been really stressed lately because of school project and essay deadlines and university applications and I think it might be the reason behind my most recent ER visit 10 days ago. So about 10 days ago I had really bad stomach pain, and I knew immediately that it was different from the pain I usually have. It reached a point where I couldn't bear it any longer and went to the ER.
The doctor gave me 3 mg morphine and other pain killers to reduce the pain and and took an Xray and CT scan. The doctor said I had food stuck in my intestine, and that my intestine was so inflamed it was really scrunched up (not exact terminology ).
After a week at the hospital, he has prescribed me:
20 mg Prednisolone twice a day (40 mg total) for 14 days (He will then reduce gradually when I meet with him for the second time)
500mg tablets of Metronidazole (antibiotic) 3 times a day for 14 days
500 mg Ciprofloxacin twice a day for 10 days
20 mg Omeprazole twice a day before food (40 mg total) for 30 days
All of these in addition to my 6MP and pentasa whose dosages haven't changed.
After two days of me being discharged the pain came back really bad, but I rested at home and got better. The next two mornings the pain came back but less worse each time. I've also gotten realllllly hungry, but I get pain from everything I eat!
Before Crohn's, I was obsessed with dairy and gluten and all fried food, but all these give me pain now. I now feel really hungry and keep on watching youtube videos on Pizza recipes just drooling and being depressed over the fact I can't have it
When I go online looking for answers for my diet and what to eat, everyone seems to recommend different things and I have no idea what to do with my diet at the moment. If anyone could provide help on how to go forward with my diet, it would be much appreciated!
