Hi! I am a 36 year old female with Crohn's for 15 years. I have had multiple fistulas, but all of my bowels. ( for now) I have been to half a dozen different doctors in the last year to try and figure out why I have been having horrible upper right quadrant pain and very narrow/sometimes liquid stools. Finally diagnosed me with two strictures in my terminal ileum. I am now unable to tolerate solid food of any kind and haven't had a BM in three days. I will be having surgery within the next week or two (unless it becomes an emergency in the meantime), but I was hoping for some advice on something to take to have a BM. I was thinking of swigging some milk of magnesia, but I don't want to make it worse. I had a sbft on Monday and I thought the prep was going to be the end of me. Any advice would be appreciated.

I would be afraid to offer you any advise on this. Except, eat no solids, only fluids.

If they are that bad of strictures, you should probably be in hospital not at home!

I would not take the milk of magnesia, it could move things along too fast for your bowels and cause a perforation. If you feel like you are currently obstructed, you should be in the hospital.

Stick to fluids or soft things like puddings, soups, jello, gatorades.

If you are having surgery soon you want to make sure you stay hydrated and well nourished (as you can with liquids). Its way harder to recover from a surgery if you go in poorly.
