help!

I am 2 weeks post op and all of a sudden tonight I have a sharp burning pain coming from inside around my wound if that makes sense? it feels as though a scab has been torn off inside of me or a shard of glass has stabbed me! Up until now I have been so well great appetite and everything looks as if it's healing well. Does anyone know what this could be im really worried don't think I could handle them having to cut me open again :(:sign0085:

Hi sorry to hear you are having pain......could you have pulled on anything, maybe lifted something you shouldn't have?........poss got up to quickly?
I know from experience if you try to do to much to soon, you can really hurt yourself. I caused a hernia. If its not better soon I would see your doctor. Sorry I wish I had more for you...hope you feel better.

Is the wound red or hot to touch? If so, you may be experiencing an infection? I could call doc and check to be sure.

I havnt really done any lifting at all in fact I've been as careful as I cud be only walking. Oh no a hernia is what I've been trying to avoid what were ur symptoms? the wound doesn't look red or isn't really hot to touch the burning stinging feeling is coming from inside. i wish my follow up appointment with the hospital was sooner as ringing my gp will be useless they are terrible :(

I have just researched symptoms of a hernia and am convinced that is whats wrong! I have a bulge which I just thought was swelling right above my wound above my belly button it has been there right from the start well before i even left the hospital but I have always been worried about this area as any discomfort i have had has come from there. I am devestated as this would mean more surgery I was so scared with the first surgery I can't go through it again :( plus I have a holiday coming up in 4 weeks time which I have been counting down to it got me through my surgery just thinking about going! I thought it wud Mark the end of this horrible time now I just know I won't be going anywhere :(

As long as you don't feel feverish or I'll, or the wound isn't weeping try not to panic. It could be it knitting back together. Best to get it checked though with the doc or phone your surgeons reception for advice.

Hi again, I was just going to say, that I had pain and a lump! And yes it hurt enough for me to see my doctor, they didn't do much until my next surgery and then they removed it( it was the size of a grapefruit) lol no I'm not tring to freak you out. I would see your doctor or even call to tell them what has happened ...better to be safe than sorry. Good luck.:)

Just to let you know I seen a doctor today I have a hernia! I havnt lifted hardly strained nothing it has been there since straight after my resection. I am devestated as this will mean more surgery and I dont know If I can go through it again :(

:( poor you although a hernia op should be straight forward can they bring you in soon to get it fixed so you can still get on your holiday?

The doctor said he thinks they will choose to wait until I am fully healed from my resection and that if my ultrasound results are ok he sees no reason why I can't go on holiday as long as I can manage the pain I am just really really worried in case it becomes strangulated

I am very happy for you, to hear you will be going.......I can't stress enough do not lift anything, and don't over do it. Take it easy!
And I hope everything gos well for you.:thumright:

Thanks for asking this kimmie, I think I have one too :( not just as sore sounding as yours is but still sore to touch and move. I'm not sure if it's hernia, pulled muscle or just healing. Did u ring surgeons secretary directly or go through up your gp?

I also noticed this swelling there since after the surgery, thought it was insides healing and it would go down. But touching it on one specific spot is really sensitive. I had an umbilical hernia in the exact spot before surgery and surgeon said he'd fix it, but I'm worried he missed it or it has opened more, because I never felt it much before the surgery.
Sorry for jumping your thread!x

Hi mia

At first i went to see my gp who told me it was a small hernia I rang my surgeons secretary direct after that and she pushed my post op appointment forward to today as I was worried. I went this morning and my surgeon examined me himself and to my delight has told me not to worry that he thinks there's a good chance my gp was wrong and that it is just scar tissue and the pain is normal healing pain. He told me as I am only just over 2 weeks post op everything will still be healing and settling down and that my gp has maybe just seen the swollen bulge of skin over my belly button and just presumed wrong! my advice has been to see how things settle for a couple of months he said it will start to become more noticeable and grow if it is a hernia in which case I'll know for sure. So I am very relieved :) how long ago was your surgery and is your swelling just above your belly button wound like mine? Xx

Just seen underneath your post and looks like you have had exactly the same surgery as me and in the same month as well let's hope we are both worrying unnecessarily :) xx

Thanks kimmie, it's great to hear it went so well for you with surgeon! Fingers crossed its just swelling!

I'm actually now 6 wks post op, not exactly swelling but more like a bit fatter on one side of scar which is sensitive to touch on one spot, but not red or inflamed. My review is 2 wks time so I'll hang on to then and see his opinion.

I hope you are recovering well and taking it easy!? :) x

Hi again I had the same op and I was swollen for ages above the belly button. It was like a pocket of fluid. It eventually goes and occasionally reappears if I've eaten a big meal!! I think it's just cause everything has been shifted it takes months for the swelling post op to disappear.

hi Archie

Oh that is a relief that's exactly what mine is like a swollen pocket just over my belly button the surgeon thinks it is normal and now you have said that I have stopped worrying I no I'm only just over 2 weeks post op but u no when everything worries u! It's awful I was so scared thinking I'd have to have more surgery. Thanks 4 your reasurance. Yes Mia I am going to just take it very easy now until my holiday :) xx

the funny thing is I was worried at the time, but over time I didn't even notice it had gone down to the fact that when you started this thread I didn't even relate to it!!! now and again after a big meal it looks a bit swollen again I think it's just due to the positioning of the scar, but honestly it doesn't bother me now. Obviously if it causes you pain or gets worse still get it checked to rule out a hernia :)
