I'm having some issues lately. So the doc had advised me to go on an ensure diet. It lasted for 2 days and I was sick of it. It really wasn't satisfying me and I'm suspicious it made me constipated. So I began eating. And I'm still struggling with constipation. Previously I had trouble with diarrhea. What does this mean? A flare up? the flareup is over? Do I need more fiber? I had been trying to eat more fruit and vegetables. The other day I ate 2 apples with the peelings on. A big mistake! I had so much pain from that. I just need some advice. In about a week I have a MRI. I'm in the middle of testing right now. In about a month I have an appointment with my doc.

The constipation may just be another manifestation of your Crohn's. Ileal Crohn's (as opposed to ileal-colonic or colonic Crohn's) sometimes manifests itself more as constipation rather than diarrhea.

Another possibility is that you have developed an IBS overlay - having Crohn's and IBS at the same time. IBS can sometimes alternate back and forth between diarrhea and constipation.

I find eating fruit helps with constipation, especially bananas. Also fiber capsules (Psyllium) work well for me. But everyone is different Fiber is often not good for those with strictures. Try to avoid things that are going trigger pain for you.

If things get too bad then call your doc.

You also might want to ask your doctor about an alternative to ensure. It has carrageenan in it and I have read that can be bad.
