Do any of you have problems with hemorrhoids and is this common for people with IBD? I have one and I've been putting Prep H on it. It is soooo uncomfortable. Sometimes I have a hard time falling asleep at night because it hurts so bad. I have problems with bleeding but I don't know if it's related to hemorrhoids. Sometimes when I bleed it's so much blood that it's like I'm peeing blood out of my butt (I'm sorry that sounds so gross, it was the best way I could describe it!). Would I bleed that much from roids?

Hey there...I don't have much experience with hemorrhoids. I've only had one before and that was several years ago before diagnosis (and was due to me just not drinking enough water!). I would tend to think that that much blood coming out shouldn't be from a hemmy, but maybe I'm just ignorant. I have heard of many people onhere describing that sort of thing without the presence of hemmies, so it could be unrelated. Have you mentioned this to your doctor? What do they say about it?

And are you certain it is hemorrhoids and not something else like a fistula? I hope someone else can be more helpful than me. I just wanted to respond, since no one else had yet. Hope things get figured out soon!

Hey, thank you for your reply! I don't think I would bleed that much from just a roid either, I'm pretty sure it's from my IBD (or whatever I have!) but because I'm new to this I wanted to see what others thought.

I'm pretty sure it's a roid, I can see it if I look at it in a mirror and it's got all the signs of it, like itchiness. I've been putting Prep H on it though, and it seems to be slowly helping.

(Although admittedly, I am not entirely sure what a fistula is!)

Yeah, just make sure you keep your doc informed of the blood. you obviously don't want to become anemic form all the blood loss!

A fistula is basically a tear in your intestinal lining (from inflammation) that can form into an abscess (a pocket of infectious fluids), which can be very painful. I have had both, but in my abdomen, so I'm not sure exactly what it would be like if if you had one in the bum region. I've heard many people on here talk about perianal fistulas and abscesses. Could be helpful to search around on the forum to see if anything sounds familiar. :)

Hey there

You could have internal hemorrhoids too which do cause a lot of bleeding. My Dad had them and he doesn't have IBD and he described it as if he was peeing blood out of his back end. I think you should pay a visit to the doctors to get it checked out. Good luck.

Thank you for your replies! I did a bit of reading about fistulas yesterday. Also, thanks for the info about the bleeding, it's good to know that at least some of the bleeding might just be from hemmies. However, it doesn't hurt my bum when I go to the bathroom, wouldn't it do that if I had internal hemmies? The one I have now is slowly going away, I'm quite relieved!

Also, at one point I had a stool test and it said my poo was bleeding but not my actual rectum...would that be from hemmies too? Or wouldn't that make my rectum bleed also? Ugh so many questions! I can't wait to find a new doctor who will actually answer them.

I don't know much about internal hemmies, but know it's very common for people with Crohn's to have blood in their stool. That's why so many of us are anemic. Much of the blood in the stool comes from ulcerations and inflammation form Crohn's.

Glad your hemmy seems to be clearing up though :) Either way, it's probably not a bad idea to keep a daily journal of how you are feeling, stool habits, eating habits, etc. Once you find a doctor, you may find that your journal will provide plenty of good insight on symptoms you experienced that you had no idea were Crohn's related.

That is a really good idea Marisa! You are right, that would be very helpful both for me and my GI (whenever I find one)! Thank you. :)

No problem! :) I kept one for a very long time--mainly for food reasons, so I knew what foods didn't make me feel so well. But it also helped to notice when extra stress seemed to take a toll on my stomach too. Not to mention when I started taking Humira and had a few injection mishaps. Now I've stopped the super detailed journal as my disease has lessened and I can eat more of a variety of things. But I still keep a medication log. :)

uuuggghhh. I suffer from hemmys. I've got both internal and external, along with some lovely skin stags mixed in, also I get the lovely hemorrhoid discharge, 'tis so much worse than the blood :p. Mine were caused from the crohn's. if your stool test said you weren't bleeding from the rectum, I would say it was the hems for sure. Sometimes mine got so bad, the water in the tiolet was completely red, that's normal for hems anyways

I'm glad yours seem to be healing though! Pretty much everyone, even people without bowel disease will get nasty hems!
