Biopsy results show active colitis (inflammation).

Maybe you guys can help me understand: is colitis just inflammation? I see people here saying they have Crohn's colitis (which I assume is both?) Is it something that can be cured?

Cris, does this mean that technically you don't have Crohn's or do you have both?

This crap confuses me! lol

haha ... I have NO more answers to the confusion then you do. :) hehe That's just what my letter said. I am still trying to sort through it all as well. Maybe I should research a bit more.

I can tell you that I DO have Crohn's. That was confirmed during surgery. Other then that ... <shrug> hehehe

Here's an easy way to remember it: the suffix -itis usually means "inflammation of". So colitis is inflammation of the colon. I'm pretty sure that if someone has Crohn's colitis, then inflammation due to the Crohn's is secluded to the colon. But Crohn's can be anywhere in the GI tract, so not everyone has it only in their colon. So even though Cris has "active colitis" she could also have active inflammation elsewhere in her tract too.

Ah, okay -- makes complete sense. Thanks for the clarification!

I told you Santos ... my body apparently hates me. hehe It was only a colonoscopy, so it'd be hard to say it was inflammed anywhere else when thats all he looked at.

I go in and see him on the 15th to discuss results and such. I will be walking out of that appointment a proud owner of a prescription sheet. I wonder if we'll argue about whether ir's severe or mild again this time? Maybe I should tell him to stop arguing with me because it's a form of foreplay or something. That would stop him from arguing with me for sure!!! It'd be fun to watch him squirm too.

Yep. Me too.

I wonder if he'll have you take the camera pill swallowing test yet to verify inflammation of the small intestine.

And I..... I have.... Arthritis. Inflammation of the Arth.

(Said like an Englishman with a lisp).

Actually that would be inflammation of the Arthr, which was what Morgan le Fay had right before she gave birth to Mordred.

my arth is more or less ok, doesn't have an itis anyway.. but my Crohn's first time round was in my colon, and yeah they called it Crohn's Colitis, which confused the whatsit out of me... until i joined here and it was explained to me.

Cris - i hope you do get a prescription without too much hassle, and that it kicks in and helps quickly x

Thanks Dingbat. I hope so too!! My only fear at this point is that I'm going to be unemployed within the next couple months, which means no medical. Eek! I'm going to bring that up with him and see if he has anything he wants to do now before that happens or any loopholes we can come up with. :)

This place sounds healthy

I'm glad I stumbled over this group, :ylol2: Hope I didn't hurt anyone when I did :)
I am in the middle of another flair up, wondering if my boss's will still want me to be on their employment roll as this is making me take so much time off, and needing a good smile so thank you guys already. you are helping me.

Dear Cris,
I pray that you haven't lost your job, that you wont lose your job and that you are starting to feel better

hi there lets live. glad we are helping you. I appreciate the kind thoughts and words for my job, but I am losing my job. The company is closing down. We are closing 2 or 3 stores at a time, so I don't know exactly when my store will close, but all stores will be closed by Nov 1st. It's alright though.

Good luck

Hi Cris,
Sorry to hear about the closures, hope you find a really nice place to work.
I'm currently using my holiday leave to take a couple of weeks off as my Crohn's has flared up again (making it difficult to keep up at work). Asked my Dr today about putting me on an elemental diet or a modulan one so I can get off the pred's sooner and get better faster.

thanks Lets Live. Sorry to hear you're flaring and having difficulties again. Hopefully you are back to feeling good soon!

Yuppers, I too have crohn's colitis which is simply crohn's affecting the colon, nothing at all the same as having both UC and CD. Colitis comes from the greek; "col"=colon and "itis"- inflammation.

I wish docs would think before they speak or at least clarify to patients what they mean when they throw the word "colitis" around in front of a crohnie, it often leads to confusion for the patient.

Infact I'd even go as far to say that many IBDers that claim they have both UC and CD most likely do not have both but assume they do for the very reason mentioned above. Having both UC and CD in one patient is quite rare (aprox 2% of the IBD population have both).

Good news is the same meds used to treat ulerative colitis is also used to treat crohn's colitis as well.

Just a side note, proctitis is inflammation of the rectom which UCer and CDers can both have as well (especially for CDers that suffer with crohn's colitis so be aware of that in the future if you've recently been told you have crohn's colitis, or even just "colitis).

:)
