Here's Why I Embrace the Label 'Disabled'

I would agree that it is interesting, I am not sure we can really always use disabled. There certainly was I time that by all means I was disabled with my crohn's. I certainly am not (fortunately) at this time. This is what I believe is the problem with using the label for crohn's. People can and do achieve remission through several approaches. Please also understand that I know many never regain remission or will ever feel completely normal again and therefore may be rightly considered disabled. Tough call on this.
 
It has taken me a while to get my head around it but I do call myself a disabled person. In the trade union I belong to we refer to disabled people rather than a person with a disability because it is not the person who has the disability, it is the world around them that disables them.

The difference depends on whether you look at the Medical model or the Social model of disability.
