Hi all,

I had a re-section last April, and all went well, recovery was fairly standard, but about 4 months ago I noticed a solid lump right next to my belly button, where my wound is. I visited my GP and he said my abdominal wall had been weakened from the surgery and my intestine was slightly pushing through.

I said is it a hernia then? He told me that until it properly pops out of the abdominal wall, the can't fix it.

Has anybody else had this post op?

Thanks,

J

Hi Jamie,

Not a particularly helpful GP... can you contact / go back to the original surgeon who did your op? They may well be able to confirm/disagree with your GP's opinion.

Probably most importantly - does it cause you pain or discomfort? I would suggest seeking a second opinion.

Best of wishes. Tony.

Sounds different than mine but I did have a large incisional hernia post hemicolectomy. Two surgeries to fix it were only partially successful and had other complications - persistent abscesses.

Had I not had the repair (with mesh) I wouldn't be able to pick up my kids, so, no regrets.

I have a hernia either side when I had my op I contracted mrsa so they had 2 leave it open it took 8 months 2 fully close but I have a 14inch and 3inch wide dip (scar) and my belly button is more 2 the right so all my stomach has collapsed my surgeon said he will review me the beginning of next year and plan my repair op and give me a pencil line scar giving me back the appearance of my belly apart from still having the bag
