Hello all,
I'm a 38/m from WV. I started seeing blood in early 2007 or late 2006 and called my dr right away because it freaked me out because nobody wants the toilet water to look like fruit punch! He said it could be a few things like hemorrhoids, colitis, or crohns. He said let's hope it's not crohns - well guess what it was. The bleeding had not gone away and I was having cramps like crazy and going to the bathroom up to 13 times a day so he sent me to have a colonoscopy. I was diagnosed in late 2007. After the colonoscopy I was saying let it be colitis, let it be colitis because I hear that is much easier to control. Then the surgeon said it's crohns and I was bummed. About a month later I got my first perianal abscess - now that was some good fun - I couldn't even sit down it hurt so bad. I thought once I have it drained it will not hurt - but guess what - it hurt much worse! I was on some pain meds for about a day and just went to bed and slept. I got another one a few months later but it was bigger and they could only get to it from the inside, lucky lucky me lol, so under I went and drained out it got. I was good for about a year when it came to the abscesses but I still had the regular crap(so to speak). Then I had my second colonoscopy in December 2008 and the surgeon said my colon still looked terrible and he was going to send me to a GI. I went to him and he is having me do a CT Scan because the last colonoscopy didn't show my small intestine. Today I went to the dr again for my latest abscess but he didn't do anything about it this time - I'm just on antibiotics for 10 days and then we will go from there. The only meds I take are 9 Asacol a day and from the looks of all the other ones I do not want to take any of them.

Howdy!

I'm on Asacol as well (12 a day). It's more or less stabilized my symptoms from getting worse, but like you, I still pass blood. I have to carefully guard against anemia.

Are you taking iron supplements?

Hello and welcome to the Forum! :)

The antibiotics will hopefully help with the abscess
and I have been on Asacol for about ten years now.

Feel free to browse the forums, ask questions
and make yourself at home.

Hope to hear more from you,
All the best,
Nancy
