Hello everyone i'm new to this group and wanted to share my long story with you all..... back in January 2010 i started having really bad upset tummys and a ton of cramping so i visited the doctor who wrote it off as a flu bug and after a few very long uncomfortable weeks i began to feel better but found i had to be eating something all day long which as a junior in high school wasn't easy but was doable.....

so since i felt better i figured everything was ok and went on with life including a very nice trip to the beach with my boyfriend (now ex) and his family to the beach, i had a very relaxxing time (i'm the oldest of seven children) but upon getting home was given the news my family would be moving away (my senior year) i was heart broken and the next day was very sick again but wrote it off as just being stressed.

After the move i was ok showing only a few symptoms diarrhea and a little cramping but at this point both were "normal". However about three months after the move i began feeling very sick again. I was cramping all the time, always running for a bathroom, throwing up right after eating and that was if i could eat. Again I went to the doctor who said it was stress and put me on some stomache that made no difference. I began feeling better again and started school, I still had many bathroom trips and cramping throughout the day but it wasn't as bad,

but i started having a new symptom I could not stay awake and would fall asleep in class and at lunch and even during conversations. I began dropping weight and eating less and less due to the pain. My parents and i started fighting about it and i was going down hill fast, i had to leave school for home study because i was missing so much and began just sitting around sleeping all the time. This all took place over just a months time. I woke up one day with a fever and thats when my parents took me to the ER. I was put on vitamin fluids and asked to give blood and urine.

I explained about the pain and not eating and everything and said no the weight loss was not intentional but no other tests were ran and the diagnosis was anarexia ( i was pissed ). So my parents sent me to rehab for eating disorders it was the worst day of my life. The rehab could not figure out why i was so sick and they sent me to another ER where a CAT scan was taken that showed inflamation.

After a week (alone) in the hospital and a partial colonoscopy i was said to have crohns and was released back to rehab who would not let me go home till my blood was how they wanted ... i ended up staying for a month. Before i left there i had another hopsital trip to get a blood tranfusion for my sever anemia. Once home i tryed to live a normal life but the weight i lost wasn't gaining back, the diarrhea hadn't stopped, i still had cramping and tummy aches, and still had a hard time eating because i had no clue what would heal and want would hurt.

I had a million different ppl telling what to do but no facts. I went to a GI doctor who told me he couldn't treat me without my records which he had not requested when we made the appointment and he told me i could eat anything and food has no effect. So within two months i was back in the hospital weighting only 110 pounds ( i'm five seven and should weight 135-145) and now had developed huge, deep, draining wounds on my butt. I was put on TPN and other medicine including antibiotics and steriods but the doctor also told me to cut out all red meat, gluten, dairy, eggs, seafood, and fatty foods from my diet, fruits and veggies are the hardest for me to eat and eggs with cheese on a bagel was the only thing i could savely eat before my stay, so i was lost and scared and had no idea how or what to eat. The TPN and steriods aided me in gaining back 15 pounds and i was feeling pretty good the sores healed up for the most part and life was good. ( this was december 2010 ) But then one day a bug bite looking bump appeared on my lower leg. It hurt a lot and would not go away. We went to the doctor who said it looked like a small case of inflamed tissue. That was till it poped and began draining, i was again put in the hospital and they said it was MRSA and put me on a very strong top of the line antibiotic. After four days i was sent home with an IV and nurse who would continue to give me the medication (after a dose at home my doctor pulled the IV )

The sores on my leg were not better but i was dressing them and hoping they would heal within a week my knee swelled to four times its normal size and i was back in the hospital this time to have surgery on the wound to clean it. After a week i was sent home. I still had no diagnosis and now had thirteeen stitches and a doctor who believed and asked continuely if i was doing this to myself. Th wounds did heal but only after they spread from mid calf to ankle leaving behind major scarring. After this stay things were ok for a long time i gained bake all the weight graduated got a job and did really well.

I had one case of the same leg sores on the other leg but they healed quickly and were easier to hanlde the second time around. I was still living with minor cramping, diarrhea, and from time to time throwing up but it was not horrible. Til about a month and a half ago. More sores poped up over night on the bum and began swelling, poping, and draining in the end i had seven open wounds including two on my private area. My doctor tryed antibiotics by shot in the butt for a few days but i ended up hospitalized again and got a CAT scan, MRI, and a few other tests.

The sores were found to be fistulas and abbcesses and i was put on antibiotics again but they are not getting btter and cover a large area down there. I can barely walk and have been on parrtial bed rest for almost a month. I have dropped down to 113 and look horrible body wise. i have very little energy and dont know where to turn. My dr sends me to the hospital they give me meds and send me home. They want to try Humeria but not till the wounds heal since infection chance is high. I am willing ti try anything to get this disease under control and hope that if some reads this i can get some advise on what to do :sign0085:

First let me say how sorry I am what you have been through. My name is Nick and pretty sure this is my first post. I'm 41 and was diagnosed with Crohn's in January 2011 (the doc said my tests came back negative but do have it ) but had my first dealings with the diease in 2010. I just went through something similar, Lost 50 pounds in a month, was hospitalized for a few weeks , got celulitis and foliculitis in the hospital , etc... The only advise I have for you is maybe look for a new doctor or some type of Crohn's institute that just deals with this disease. My sister in-law has dealt with this disease since she was a child and was told she could never have children. She has a boy and a girl because of doing exactly what I mentioned to you. Her life totaly changed when she found the rite place( doctor ). Wish I could be of more help but I'm new in this battle , GOOD LUCK! Keep your head up.

Welcome to the forum! I'm so glad you joined!

Good grief. It sounds like you've been receiving absolutely terrible care. I'm so sorry to hear what you've been through :(

First off, the sores on your legs are/were very likely pyoderma gangrenosum. It's an extraintestinal manifestation of Crohn's Disease.

The key here is getting you the care that you deserve. Do you have medical insurance? If so, what kind? I have a connection with some world class gastroenterologists who focus on IBD in Southern California so please let me know the answer to that question.

I have also copied your thread to the Fistula/Abscess forum so the people there can give you some advice. You can find that thread here: http://www.crohnsforum.com/showthread.php?t=36964

Hey lynner, I know it must suck to be where you are at right now. And especcially at a younger age it must feel even that much horrible. But I will tell you, once the doctors have figured everything out and put you on some kind of medicin cycle it will get better. I don't have any knowledge or experience with your sores, Iv'e never had them. But I would say to go ahead with Humeria once they are gone. I have heard good things about it and it could put you into remission and back on track with your life

Thanks guys ! Its nice to hear from ppl who know how i feel :) David I do have health insurance but am currently changing to a new one so I do not know all the details yet but it will be with Blue Shield. Thank you for reposting for me that was very kind :D

Hello and welcome to the forum. Sorry to see that you have had to go through so much, I hope with the new insurance you get a new doc and the level of care you both need and deserve. Will also be keeping fingers crossed that you can be feeling better soon, pls keep us updated on how you are getting on.
