High magnesium

So blood tests are back
All is normal except Mg levels are outside normal range
Ds takes a Mg supplement everyday but it's only 200mg
Max supplemental value is 350 mg for his age
He doesn't eat veggies so not getting it from food
His peptamen jr has 50 mg in it
He only drinks 2 a day
He has been on magnesium supplements for two years so not sure why it's high or why it would cause a problem
Any advice ????

There really is no way to accurately measure Mg in the body. The amount in the blood is one thing, how much exists at the cellular level is another thing.

That dosage is well within safe limits. I take way more than that with no problems.

If blood pressure is in the normal range I would not be concerned.

Good to know it is getting to the blood stream anyway.

Could it be low calcium intake? Calcium is a magnesium antagonist.

His reading was only 2.3 so only slightly higher .

Little busy with mre reaction
But plans are to call in the am to let them know about the Ua results plus mre since it will show his kidneys

I’m so sorry the hear that your boy had a reaction mlp. Okay, I see your thread now, I am working my way up the forum main page.

I hope you get solid answers as to what is ailing your lad and if it does show something it is easily treated. By the same token I hope his kidneys are normal!

That was going to be my first question.

The body is VERY GOOD at maintaining serum magnesium levels. High magnesium first points to kidneys. I'd probably want the test rerun as well just to make sure it wasn't a mistake.

Next thing I'd look at is their potassium levels.

Nephrologist was notified
He just had an abdominal mre and UA done as well
So just waiting to see if nephro wants anything else done
