I am going on holiday for the first time since diagnosis, usually I am very excited and counting down sleeps etc but I am overcome with anxiety for two main reasons. Firstly because I am so worried I will embarrass myself by having an accident away and secondly because I am going away with a new boyfriend, who since diagnosis I have avoided spending entire nights with him because during the night I can suffer from very painful cramps and wind or having to run to the toilet several times. I really want to go and enjoy myself but I am worried. Any tips advice funny stories etc to help would be very much appreciated.

I am hoping a burst of vitamin D will perk me up once I get there!

ps I am a rareity in saying this but I like pred and it seems to like me! Woo hoo!!

All I can say is, I was so nervous before I went away last summer. But once I got there, the stress free environment was sooo good for me, I had no symptoms except when I ate the wrong foods. And even then, there's nothing wrong with spending a day or two just lazing around your hotel room!

If you're worried about accidents, pack yourself an emergency kit in an oversized beach bag. Depending where you're going, and the weather, you can put a sarong round your waist, or a sweater round your waist or wear a long trench coat to cover anything up until you can change.

Hope you have a lovely time!

Forgot to say, I have had a stomach bug recently and found that if I take a dose of cocodamol before bed (16mg codeine, 1000mg paracetamol), it slows the bowel and is a painkiller, so it was great for stopping toilet trips and cramps in the night. And it didn't constipate me too much like Immodium does, I was going to the toilet easily once I woke up. It might be worth giving it a go.

I just went away on vacation and I was nervous, too. However, I HAD A GREAT TIME! I actually felt the best I have in months! It did me a lot of good. Like you said, it may have been all the sun/vitamin D! So, try not to worry and think positive thoughts!

I hope you have a wonderful trip!

When I go on vacation, I pack Women's Depends-the one's that look like undies. They look like Granny panties (not what you're going for with a new guy lol) but having that extra layer helps me to relax and enjoy myself.

Also, I think having a talk with your new guy might make you feel better. You don't have to go into all the details, but just let him know you have digestive problems. The anxiety of trying to keep it a secret will suck the fun out of your trip, and he probably won't think it's a big deal. Everybody's got something, right?

Also you can let your doctor know you're going away and he can give you extra meds that will help put your mind to rest.

Just go and focus on the fun!

Even though I had the worst nights sleep ever last night I have woken up today with excitement about going away tomorrow! Thanks for the replies and suggestions, its such a comfort knowing your not the only worrying crohnie!
I have an appointment with my consultant today so will ask him for any tips too! Just away to teach myself some vital spanish sayings i.e "help - where is the nearest toilet"

Haven't tried Depends, but I've tried Tena pants. If you're small, you can try DryNites, they're designed for bedwetting teens but they come higher in the back than the Tenas do, which is where we need it! They're also cheaper, and prettier I think!

Asked my Latin Hubby-Here's how to say Where's the bathroom? in Spanish-
Dónde está el baño? It sounds like this- Donday estah el banyo?

Have fun on your vacation!!
