Well,I'm home from my Ileocecectomy from which they took out about 12" along with a growth called a Meckels. According to my surgeon, the surgery was very successful. I have 4 incisions (Lapro) the biggest being about 4" next to my b-button. The first day or 2 was difficult but not horrible. My bowels woke up 3 days later and I was walking alot and I mean alot.Total hospital stay was 5 nights. It's day 2 at home and I'm still walking about 1-1/2 miles a day on my treadmill. My diet is low residue and my bowels are too active for me.I have 4 bm's a day and all "D".
The worst pain that I had was shoulder pain due to th egas they pump in you.I'm still having some of that pain yet.
Just thought I'd let you all know how I'm doing.

Well I'm sure you're glad to be home. Hopefully the "D" will slow down for you once your body gets used to eating again. Good Luck

good to hear that youre home and that it was successful.
my brother got the same shoulder pain from the air pressure when he had his appendix out, that sounds absolutely awful. ugh i cant imagine.
good for you for walking so much! thats great
keep us posted! youll be in my thoughts

I'm glad the surgery went well for you. I am confused about the walking part. Did your doc recommend you walk so much? Sometimes walking wakes my bowels up. Maybe you need a rest?
Hope you feel better.

Hey. I'm glad to hear the surgery went well. I had my surgery in Wisconsin as well. Just of curiosity, what hospital were you at and who was your surgeon?

-Greg

The walking part was pushed on me from the beginning and by what I've read.I'm a very active person and can't sit still. I'm not fatigued at all,I could easily walk further.

Greg I was at Elmbrook Memorial in Brookfield,Wisconsin. My doctoer was Dr Hayssen and she is absolutly wonderfull.
Where did you have yours?

I had mine a Froedtert, in Wauwatosa. My surgeon was Dr. Otterson. I was very happy with her as well.

Good luck with the rest of your recovery.

Glad to hear the surgery was all okay! Hopefully the D and the pain will calm down a little as things heal and get more back to 'normal' whatever that is. Wishing you a speedy recovery!

Hello there, glad to hear all is ok. I had 12 inches of my intestines removed last year as well. I healed up fine after surgery and even created an appetite. Hope you heal qwuik, best wishes.

Sincerely and Respectfully, Gary

Thanks everyone!
Well it's 2-1/2 weeks and I feel really good. No pain at all, I'm walking alot 1-2 miles a day. I'm bending over, driving, although the bumps still bother me a little. The appetite is back, but I'm still on low residue until i see the surgeon on the 26th. The BM's are slowly getting better and I mean slowly. I'm going back to work on Monday (Yeh!) Although since I've been gone everyones hours have been cut to 32 hours. i was told I will go down to 35 hours. This damn economy sucks!
My GI wants me to switch meds from Asacol to Imuran. I'm a lil bit worried about that as the side effects are a little more risky. He told me that it would be the best drug to keep my Crohns in remission. But at what cost?
Thanks again for all of the Get Wells!

Wolfie

Wolfie, I could have written your story.

I had 12 inches of ileum/cecum removed mid Feb. I also felt fine afterwards but had a stiff shoulder. I am now in PT because my arm became real stiff and Physical Therapist believes it is all the steroids I took for the past three months as well as a weak shoulder to begin with.

I am taking 50 mg Imuran and tolerating well. You can take blood tests to see if it is hurting your liver. I have been on it since Nov and no liver trouble yet.

I am scheduled for Remicade transfusions every six weeks but desire it only every eight weeks. Remicade makes me sleepy and gives me stiffness in my arm. I also read the label and this black box drug has potential dangers.

I also take monthly B-12 injections now. I asked about Pentasa and was told it no - not worth it for my remission.

I also alternate between D and Normal with some urgency issues. I hope this settles down.

I also find my appetitie is a little less now. Prior to surgery I had severe inflammation in the ileum but felt no pain nor did it hamper my apetite. My intestines that were removed were four times regular size but no infection or abcess.

I see surgeon today and return to work on Monday.

GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!

oooh take that first day back easy....I was sooo tired this past monday when I went back to work and I only did a half day. :p
