Hi all my lovlies.
I am finally home!!
Feels so nice to be in my own bed again.
Now I am back on a proper internet device I thought I would give you a full run down of the past 10 days.
I went into hospital on Monday 30th january. I went in because I could no longer tolerate solid foods and was even struggling with soups. I saw the lovely surgeon on Tuesday. He stayed with me for an hour explaining all that was going to happen before, during and after the operation.
He was brilliant. Answered all my questions, drew pictures so I could explain it to hubby.
They tried o fit me in on Wednesday but due to an emergency it was not possible. By this time I was on a drip for fluids as i couldn't keep water in. As soon as it went in it either came back up or went straight through.
Thursday at 5.00pm some very nice looking surgical peoples came to get me from the ward. We had a laugh and a giggle along the way. Went into the theatre where they put me out.
I woke up some time later in recovery, threw up twice and felt a million times better! Sore form the surgery but no stabbing agonising pain form my pesky colon. I got taken to the surgical ward where i slept on and off for the rest of the night.
Woke up in the morning and had a whole new outlook.
No pain, and i could eat a small breakfast. I had a cup of tea and some ready break, that was more liquid than anything else. Only managed 2 spoonfuls but it was the best breakfast I had ever had! I got out of bed, with help, sat in my chair and had a wash.
My lovely surgeon came to see me. He told me when they went in they found that all my internal organs were adhered to the inside of my stomach wall. It took them 30 minutes just to find my colon and untangle it. They then discovered that the hole they had cut for removal of the colon was no where big enough. They had cut a hole about 6cm around. They had to widen it to nearly 14cm to get my colon out. When they eventually got it out the surgeon got it to just over the bowl/tray for inspection when it fell apart in his hands!
He then told me if they had not done the op when they did I could possibly not be here now.
The next day my catheter and pca was taken down and off I went. Had a bit of a uti form the catheter but it cleared right up with antibiotics.
Have mastered my bag and although my output is a bit watery I know it wwill improve as i eat more foods.
I wanted to say a big Thankyou to everyone on here for all the encouragement and support I have received both before and since my op.
Sorry this has gone on for so long but I thought I would get it down while it was still fresh
